About Me

Helloooo.. my name is Daniela, but all my friends call me Dani :)
I am part English, part Italian, but I grew up in California and Switzerland. After travelling in South America for a year and stumbling upon the love of my life, I settled in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I have lived for the past two years. I call many places home and am very grateful for that:) I am currently a nanny for a beautiful 3 year old boy and an online teacher of English for young Chinese students.
My love: his name is Marcos! :) He is from Uruguay. He is an artesan and musician and has lived in Buenos Aires for most of his life. Marcos makes jewellery, working in macrame and precious stones and has become more and more involved in recycled art, using wood and metal. I enjoy decoupage and collage work and we enjoy making artwork together, which we sell at the San Telmo market, a popular artesan market in Buenos Aires.
Marcos is honest, generous and the kindest person I've ever known.
I am enthusiastic, enamoured with life... and yeh.. I'm pretty nice too ;)
We are both creative, positive and joyful..:)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I never used Couchsurfing on my previous travels and am baffled why I didn't.. I was more involved in work and travel i guess..
but I would love to now connect with new people in this way.. bring the travelling world to people's homes when we are on the road and have the traveller's world brought to our home when we are rooted down..

Interests

We like
long walks..
long talks..
anything that makes us laugh, smile..
travelling..
learning more about me, learning more about you..
playing music and dancing..
making something new out of something old..
listening to people's stories..
leaps of faith!!

and me in particular I also love
yoga..
gardening (i'd love to have a garden but for the present moment am fully devoted to my house plants..)
listening to poetry (but not reading it.. weird.. don't know why..)

Music, Movies, and Books

books that I have dear connections to:
the prophet by khalil gibran
just kids (and actually absolutely anything by..) by patti smith
god of small things by arundhati roy
women who run with the wolves by clarissa pinkola estés
i know why the caged bird sings by maya angelou
the gifts of imprefection by brene brown

movies.. off the top of my head:
the wings of desire
paris, texas
forrest gump
amélie
down by law
the butterfly effect
los diarios de motocicleta
and many more..

music:
marcos loves to play music more than anything.. he loves to sing and play the guitar and often some percussion.. he loves playing freely with people and enjoys sharing great moments that way.. i wish i was so talented, but am happy to sing along when i can, shake a tambourine or simply dance:)
marcos probably loves rock and traditional folk most but is open to all sounds..

for me there is music for all moments and it really depends on the moment and mood i'm in..
i love artists such as velvet underground, patti smith, led zeppelin, radiohead, pj harvey, the cure and ooh.. so so many more..
i love all different types of ethnic music.. getting to know the traditional music of a place is such a wide door to the soul, the heart of it's people and gives you a real flavour for the character of the land.
i also love electronic sounds and experimentation.. four tet and nils frahm for example always excite me and have a special place in my heart..

and to dance.. well i like techno.. and marcos.. not so much haha:D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i went travelling and never went home.. it's actually not that amazing, but it still surprises me every so often!

marcos hopped on a bus and followed me to bolivia after meeting in buenos aires. i think that's pretty amazing and definitely changed our lives!

Teach, Learn, Share

I think everything we know, everything we have learned in life, everything we have experienced is something we can teach, learn and share from one another. It can be anything from languages, cooking recipes, making bracelets, playing the guitar or simply seeing something from a different point of view..
we all have so much to learn from one another and sharing good moments is the most precious gift of life.

What I Can Share with Hosts

friendship, laughter, stories..
hopefully shared moments we will both remember! :)
