ABOUT ME

I'm a farm girl that briefly escaped the fence-building and cow-herding of my home to live in Rome (welcome to couch surfing!), but have found my way back to my roots. I'm currently teaching part time in various schools, including conservative home school kids and adult ex-convicts. I aspire to change the world... at least for one person. I don't know where this life-adventure will take me next - some options are grad school (yuck, more papers!), teaching English abroad (my brain doesn't work in terms of grammar... not sure how that would work), finding some menial-but-satifying job (barista? working in a library? b&b? short order cook???), or dedicating a couple years to truly investing myself in a way that will make the world better (volunteer in an orphanage? Peace Corp? fight slave trade with an NGO?). Someday I think I might like to marry and raise a dozen kids in huts on a tropical island, but that's a long ways off!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe God loves me, which gives me a good reason for loving other people. I aspire to be someone who has a hospitable heart, where people feel welcome to take off their shoes, come in, and sit with some cocoa or tea to chat for a bit. I want to spend time in an orphange, holding babies, running a B&B welcoming strangers to my home, and owning a cafe/bistro where students, families, and all others can come find a welcoming haven.

People, cooking, ballroom dancing, playing soccer (football?) in the park with my siblings and cousins, listening to piano music, reading, learning random facts that aren't really useful for anything, sale shopping, second-hand stores, bookstores, Italian coffee, campfires, sunshine, my friends, building relationships that last decades...

I'm a casual fan of many movies, books, and music. I'm an avid fan of Joy Williams music. I love LOTR, Anne of Green Gables, and Star Wars movies. I am really looking forward to going into an english-library this summer and taking every book by Madeline L'Engle off the shelf to read while sitting in a hammock and sipping lemonade.

Teach: I don't consider myself an expert in anything, but I can recite my favorite Shakespeare sonnet!
Learn: I like to learn pretty much anything! Well, not entirely true, I have no intention of learning anything that has to do with drugs or being drunk... just not interested, not how I work! I love the sounds of foreign language, but I'm afraid I have a bad ear for it!
