I think you can get a greater experience if you go and meet people directly instead of staying in a hotel apart from the locals and you can learn more about the culture of other places if you stay with people of the country you are visiting, plus if you do it this way you can learn to be handy in the future.

The beautiful sky full of stars at 3 AM in the country side was one of the best things I've ever seen.
