About Me
I retired about 10 years ago and moved to my present location about 9 years ago.. I also host for a group called WarmShowers. these are people that travel by bicycle. . I have several RV's that my guests stay in, (In some other countries they are called caravans, camping cars, motor couches), I have a 30' RV with 2 beds, (one is king size), and a 22' travel trailer that can sleep 4 pretty easy. All my guests have been comfortable as I make certain they do not get hot or cold and the beds are comfortable. This also gives them and I a bit more privacy Nobody will be walking through where they are sleeping. My dog is shy at first around people especially children, but is very sweet once over her fear. I sponsor two people through Unbound, and I donate monthly to a few other charities.
I don't drink, smoke, or use drugs, ( not saying that I have never). I don't mind what others choose to do as long as it doesn't impact me.
I enjoy people, and also being of assistance to them. My all time hero is Jesus Christ. He said whatever you do for others, you have done for me. This is paraphrased of course, but the idea of how we should treat each others is clear. I worked on the West Coast waterfront for nearly 30 years and I learned that not everyone of your race or belief system wants to be your friend, and not everybody of a different race or belief system wants to be your enemy. The good news to this is in every race there are way more good people than evil. The not so good news is it is not clear right away who you can trust.
I try to follow a spiritual path but belong to no organized religion. I once read that God is like a mirror. All that look at it see something different, but the mirror never changes what it is. The problem arises when one group thinks they have the only true vision. Most of the time, those people are being manipulated by the leaders of their group for very nonspiritual purposes.
I do not employ a night clerk so I ask that my guests arrive by 9pm. depending on the situation I may make an exception. I wake up early and should not have to stay up late waiting for people to arrive. If I was staying at your home I would not expect you to lose sleep because I did not feel like traveling earlier that day. My guests may sleep in as late as they wish. I don't tell guests how much sleep that they are allowed, They should be considerate of my sleep as well.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My town is an uninteresting place in between interesting places. I am about halfway in between Death Valley Ca. and Las Vegas Nv. So I see my place as being a rest stop for travelers. lodging can be expensive and difficult to find in both of the interesting places. When I was younger I traveled probably more than most of the people that I grew up with. I was in the Navy from 1972 to 1978 in the Pacific region. As a civilian I took many road trips either by car or motorcycle. Mostly camping in national parks. There have been people who have shown me kindness in my travels. and I try to pass that on to other people who travel. I have read a quote that said traveling is like reading a book. Those that don't travel only get to read one page. My personal travels have shown me what a wonderful book this world is.
Interests
Computers, motorcycles, a bit of wood and metal fabrication, guitars, (I know a half dozen classical songs but have more than a dozen guitars, (I just took a fancy to them). A bit of sewing, (I have several machines that guests may use), a bit of travel. Once or twice a year I will modify a vehicle so someone can sleep in it comfortably at no charge to them. Many people today live in their vehicles so they can survive on a small budget. I am not very interested in making money, and that fits right in with the people I do work for, (they have none). I like to build things.

Music, Movies, and Books
Keiko Matsui, Sissel Kyrkjebø. I tend to avoid aggressive music like heavy metal. Often I will listen to artists of days past like Nate King Cole.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
During many of my years working the Waterfront I was also the union shop steward. It is an unpaid responsibility that has more hardships than benefits associated with it. It was a position of service to my fellow man. To speak in behalf of those too timid to speak for themselves. To defend those unjustly punished. I took the position seriously and I was good at it, (if I do say so myself). So looking back I don't know if anyone fully appreciates what effort I went to in their behalf, but I am happy to know that I had an impact in their well being.
Teach, Learn, Share
I retired as a refrigeration mechanic and have experience in home repairs.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I will be doing my traveling by camper, so I am mostly going to be a host. I am handy with tools, (worked with them for 50+ years. My father was an electrical contractor and I was a part of his child labor team).
Countries I’ve Visited
Canada, Guam, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan
