About Me

Citizen of the world. I was born in Southern Spain, but I have lived 15 years in the US. I have lived in Texas, Indiana, Michigan and California. In Europe i have lived/worked in Spain, Germany, Italy and France, and I have also traveled to many other countries in the world for both research and pleasure. I am very close to my family and I travel back home every year to visit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I love to travel and the best part about it is meeting new people. I use/like airbnb and i dislike hotels (they feel like impersonal hospital rooms to me). Not liking the superficial and luxurious lifestyles of our time, I seek real experiences in life and couch surfing seems like a great idea to me...

Interests

I have had a pretty good life thus far and I am a generally optimistic and fun loving person. I like music, beaches, new faces/places, films, books and things (in general) that mean something or that make me feel something. I like people in a similar way, but I tend to be friendly to almost anyone. I believe everyone has something good about them and that if you pay attention to that, then the goodness grows in them. That said, my friends are getting married or becoming parents and I have them spread all over the world, so I sometimes feel detached...

I like kittens and animals in general.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love film and I find value in almost any movie. My favorites range from the Big Lebowski to Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, with a little bit of Italialian Neorealism and some good old action movies mixed in. I confess I have watched "My fair Lady" a hundred times...

I also like all sorts of music. Willie Nelson, Leonard Cohen, Dire Straights, Bachatitas, Salsa, Camaron de la Isla and a wide etc...

I used to read a lot (hemingway, garcia marquez, neruda, ruben dario, william bake, dylan thomas, etc...), but now I just do audiobooks. In the past few months I have read/heard the Power and the Glory, Frankenstein, Gilgamesh, Watchmen, The call of the Wild, Madame Bovary and I am currently working on a room with a view.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I started singing Tangos at a restaurant one day, one of those loud places in southern spain, and the entire restaurant went silent and started listening to my "performance". Not being a musician and loving music that is one of my favorite moments in my life... I am actually trying to get a "subway station" band to play with during my summers in Spain...

Teach, Learn, Share

I currently teach (professor of economic history, economics through film, migrations and a large etc...), try to get people to study abroad and to drink wine, and I have also done a number of very different things in the past to earn a living. I have worked in banking, marketing, translations and a large etc...
Learning is an addiction. Languages, new foods, cultures... Please teach me!

What I Can Share with Hosts

My time, history, knowledge, experiences and everything "real" about who I am. I like to cook as well and I am constantly trying to find new fun things to do...
In general, I would say that I try to be a very generous person with anything of value I may have...
