Sobre mí

My wife, Alana, and I have traveled to many places throughout the world and have lived in many different cultures... Mexico, Taiwan, Nepal, Israel, and New Zealand are some of the places we've spent an extended period of time (more than 3 months).

Our passion is to love people and create community wherever we go. We really enjoy meeting new friends that often become like family all over the world.

Back home in the USA, we are both self-employed entrepreneur-type people. I have worked in the restoration / construction industry for the past 8 years and Alana has worked in the coffee/cafe industry for the past 8 years. We both have a fair amount of leadership and management experience as well as life-coaching and personal development training. We really enjoy helping other people succeed and seeing their dreams come true!

We recently sold our 3 bedroom, 2,000 sf house and built a tiny-house on a trailer and moved into the heart of Dallas, TX. It has been a super fun adventure of learning how to downsize and live on a much smaller scale (318 sf...if you include the sleeping lofts!!) We are both artists and love doing creative things.. I am a pianist, singer, painter, and carpenter and Alana is a violinist, writer, photographer, and a barista!

We love to enjoy good local food wherever we go and we LOVE to cook! We are both tidy and live life on the quieter side. Some of our favorite mottos that we live by:
"Love your neighbor as yourself"
" Honey will attract more bees that vinegar"
"Measure twice, cut once"
"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day... teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime."
"He is no food who loses what he cannot gain, to gain what he cannot lose."
"Never assume anything about someone until you've walked a day in their shoes"
"Everyone has a story if you will only take time to listen."

Some interesting things we've done:
- Hiked 18 days in the Himalayas
- Bartended at a restaurant in New Zealand
- Slept in a Bedouin tent in the desert of Israel
- Camped on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean in Scotland
- Slept on the ground in a snowstorm in the CO rockies (no tent)
- Eaten whale-blubber (yes, legally)
- Alana grew up on a wheat farm in the Panhandle of Texas
- Daniel grew up in a musical family (professional musicians)
- We live in a tiny house!
- Hiked 3 days straight with less than 4 hours of sleep through the CO mountains
- Ran a marathon
- We've been to 30 countries and 48 of the United States.

We hope to get a chance to meet you and hear your story!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

We love the community aspect of being with local people wherever we travel! We despise doing the normal tourist things and we do not enjoy being in hotels wherever we go. Our first experience in couch-surfing was with a wonderful single gentleman in Scotland who looked after us really well and told us about local places to hike, eat, and see that were not on the tourist maps. This really affirmed the idea that it's always better to be with locals!

Our blog is www.LocalWithMe.com ... the name kinda speaks for itself!
