About Me

Born and raised in England, now living in Daqing, China. Graduated from Portsmouth University 2 years ago with a degree in Engish Lit. & American Studies, I propmtly moved back home. After realising that being jobless sucks, I decided to become an EFL teacher and move to China. I love my job and the freedom and flexibility it gives me, as well as just how fun it is.

I'm a laid-back, funny, kind guy, who likes spending time with friends and making new ones. I'm always up for a laugh, and probably don't take life as seriously as most do.

I enjoy reading, hanging out, listening to music, learning new things, and meeting new friends. Matrial Arts is one of my passions, however, I have been unable to pursue this in the city I'm currently living in. I also enjoy long, romantic walks to the fridge.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've heard about it for a few years now, decided that now is the time to finally give it a go! It seems like it's a great way to get out there and meet new people, and see new places, that I would otherwise have not been able to see in the cities I visit.

Interests

I really enjoy reading, and I mean really reading. Getting so engrossed in a book that you don't notice the time go by or the page count adding up. Getting sucked into the world that the characters inhabit, and seeing their life as they live it. Getting caught up, so you momentarily don't know where you are if someone interrupts you and you need to glance up.

I also love spending time relaxing, whether that's with friends or on my own, either way is cool. My ideal way to relax is to go to a cool bar with friends, sink a few drinks and then see where the night takes us.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'll listen to most genres and artists, but my current favourites are C2C, Run the Jewels, El-P, The Beatles, The Black Keys, David Byne & St. VIncent, and Wu-Tang Clan

Movies: I prefer my movies to either be action or comedy, with a soft spot for cheesey action films from the 80s. Think Steven Seagal and non-Terminator Arnie. As for the actual films I like, there's Star Wars (IV, V, VI), Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Kindergarten Cop, Airplane, and Superbad.

Books: Reading is something that I love to do, even if I don't do it as much as I should. Amongst my favourite books are The Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice & Fire, Looking for Alaska, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Giver, and I'm beginning to get into poetry and the Classics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 7 years learning, assisting, and finally teaching, martial arts. It was a diffuclt and rewarding experience, and one which I am glad that I started all those years ago. Thanks to all the ward work, time, and effort that I put into it, I gained so much more than a black belt. I feel it helped prepare me for life, made me much more confident, and, above all, it helped me connect with people and build real, strong, friendships. In truth, it is propbably one of the only things I miss from back home.
