About Me
Hola!
I've recently returned from 14 months travelling in South America. I was lucky enough to go away for such a long time with my girlfriend Ruth, and we stayed with some beautiful people from Couchsurfing along the way. Most of my references from this time will be on her account - https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/ruthholtom
I love travelling, although at the moment I'm usually going around with work or on short breaks. I'd much rather stay with someone with local knowledge then go to a hostel. I'm easy going and happy to fit around other people's schedules. My priorities when visiting a new place are eating lots of food and discovering hidden gems. A run down market with an unpronounceable soup name? Going for dumplings after the club closes? A sunrise run when the park is quiet? A multi-day high altitude trek without a guide? Yes please!
If we meet then we can share stories and dig into a good conversation over a pint, coffee or bowl of chunky chips. Or we can chill out. It's all good :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To meet new people and gain a personal insight to a new place. It's an amazing experience to be responsible for other peoples' trust and to be grateful of their generosity.

Music, Movies, and Books
I used to DJ dubstep and drum & bass in clubs, now I play hip-hop, funk, reggae and party tunes at house parties. Recently I've been learning about Brazilian music, and I enjoy listening to anything that is a medium to personal expression.
I love many films. I think I watched too many as a kid. There are some incredible films out there, but I have a set three from my childhood that always cheer me up - South Park Bigger, Longer, Uncut ; The Usual Suspects; Star Wars A New Hope.
When I have the time I devour books. In a strange way, I find political theory calming and like to read non-fiction to learn what I can. My favourite fiction books include 'The Lacuna' by Barbara Kingsolver, 'Half of a Yellow Sun' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and any 'Calvin & Hobbes' anthology. 'As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning' by Laurie Lee is the ultimate traveller book too.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I did a great speech at my sisters wedding! But probably more interesting is walking the Great wall of China, climbing Huana Potosi mountain, going to Rio Carnaval and Barranquilla Carnaval, and living in a ten person co-operative house in Manchester for a year and a half.
Teach, Learn, Share
Estoy aprendiendo español, y siempre quiero practicar. Puedo cocinar bien y tengo cuentos de manifestaciones, lugares muy lindas y la gente del mundo.
I'm learning Spanish at the moment, challenging myself to talk with Spanish speakers whenever possible. I can cook, with quite a few recipes from around the world, and I have stories of protests, beautiful places and people from around the world.
What I Can Share with Hosts
If you've got some decks we can have a mix. Other than that, I consider myself to be good conversation and a good cook. If I'm staying and you're tired one night, feel free to ask me to whip up a meal.
