About Me

I am a restless person who always has to discover and explore new things, be it while travelling, at work, or simply when being outside. I don't want to live a boring life by following everything that's necessary for a successful career, I rather enjoy my life by doing the things that I like.

Right now I am travelling for one year after having sold my startup I built up from 2010-2016. After a solo bicycle tour through Central Asia, I am currently travelling in Southeast Asia together with my wife Ilinca. You can follow my adventures on www.danielstravels.com.

Starting April 2018, I will be back in Zurich where I will be looking for a new work-related challenge. But until then I will enjoy my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling is about meeting people, and there is no better way to get in touch with locals than staying at their home and get to know a place from the perspective of a local. And sometimes these people turn into friends, which is even better. Therefore I avoid staying at hotels whenever possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy music a lot, having played the cello for more than a decade. I listen to everything from classical music to pop, rock, metal, and electronic music, depending on my mood. If I had to name a few examples: Vivaldi, Haydn, Beethoven, Evanescence, Placebo, Muse, Madonna...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In Spring 2017 I have been cycling from Iran along the silk road through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan until Kyrgyzstan. It was an experience of a lifetime. I met so many nice locals along the way, learned a lot about their religion and culture, and I covered a distance of more than 5500 km through deserts, valleys, and over mountain passes up to 4650 m.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love sharing my adventures with people, be it my travel adventures as a backpacker or cyclist, my experience in building up startups, or my activities such as paragliding, hiking, scuba diving, kayaking, or all the other things I love so much. And I am also a good chat partner when it comes to the technical aspects of photography and other electronic devices.
