Overview
About Me
Just a Kiwi guy, used to work as a lawyer but I ditched it to do some traveling. I love being on the road, taking photos, meeting people and eating the local food.
A big football fan (Liverpool), I'm keen to be in Europe for the Euros in June. I do a lot of mountain biking back home in New Zealand, and also enjoy catching some waves.
I've been in Asia for the past ten months, and absolutely loved it. I've kept a blog of my travels (www.youmustroam.com). Now I'm coming to Europe for a different experience, starting with some good wine, cheese and beer.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To make new friends. My favourite travel memories have all come through experiences I've had with people. It's why I travel solo. I don't see CS as an alternative to a hostel, it's only about meeting new and interesting people.
I love to learn about other cultures, which is one of the reasons why I travelled around Asia for ten months. Discovering the history, politics and philosophy of a place is why I travel.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love books, perhaps too much, at one point in my trip I was carrying ten books in my backpack. I was throwing clothes out just to keep the books...
I enjoy reading modern authors like Haruki Murakami, Bret Easton Ellis and Irvine Welsh. I also like classics such as Conrad and Huxley. But my favourite genre at the moment is science fiction because of all the possibilities it offers. Asimov, Bester, Banks, Hamilton and Gibson are some of my favourites here. Ahh, there's too much to read in this world.
I also love music, particularly going to small gigs in dingy clubs. Auckland where I grew up has a surprisingly good music scene, and I've seen hundreds of artists there. I listen to Animal Collective, Radiohead, Earl Sweatshirt, Crystal Castles, My Bloody Valentine, Neon Indian, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Dan Deacon, the Raveonettes, Grimes, Death Grips, Danny Brown, Foals, Beach Fossils. One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Quitting my law job to go travelling. The best thing I've ever done.
Walking through the Korean DMZ.
Working in Costa Rica's biggest slum was pretty eye-opening.
Teach, Learn, Share
Can teach about Kiwi culture, law (hopefully you don't need it), and some basic blogging and photography. Also love chatting about books, football and life.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm an OK cook and I can bring some beer or wine. I'm not on here to take the piss from hosts and be a free rider.
I will sit and talk to you and keep you company, and with a lot of luck, entertained. I'm not the type who will lock themselves away in a room. I also have a very basic knowledge of blogging and photography which I'm happy to share.
