About Me

Strive for insight, experience and acquaintance. Know when to open your mouth, and know when to keep quiet.
I made this account prior to a trip along the Trans-siberian railway in Russia. Here, I spent a month with a friend. We visited Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk (including Olkhon island), and Vladivostok.

I shoot analog film. That way, the pictures and moments matters more to me.

For the interested, I have walked the following routes in Nepal: Langtang, Tamang Heritage Trail, Gosainkunda, Helambu, and recently (spring 2018) the Mardi Himal base camp.
My Nepali name is Bishal Bahadur Bikka, as given by my host-familiy from my days of volunteering.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Authentic experience and networking. Get under the skin of whatever culture you are experiencing, and take hold of the energy and ressources around you.

Interests

With great interest in programme managing, conflict resolution, diplomacy, security politics and urban search and rescue, I strive to have a career within the field of Emergency- and Risk management. I teach travelsafety on my university, enjoy heavy music, and singing old folk songs. I tried fencing once, but got on bad terms with the coach because he refused to get enough left-hand swords (foils). Instead, I bought some expensive climbing shoes to impress the girl who is now my girlfriend; And much to her amusement, I am still a very bad climber (But I enjoy it nonetheless).

Music, Movies, and Books

Bad at reading long books, but can listen to the same album over and over. My favorite composition is Sibelius' 2nd symphony in D-major.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Following are a namedropping of experiences and events to give you an idea of what made me who I am.

Interning at Palestine Red Crescent Society in Ramallah for 10 weeks, and passing through the Qalandiya Checkpoint on the day of rage during the 41 day-long hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the triumph of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) in the streets of Moscow. A month of train travel and couchsurfing in Russia along the trans-siberian railway. Off-road driving on olkhon island in lake baikal.

Safari by foot in the Chitwan jungle of Nepal, 20 days of trekking in Himalaya, 2 months of living in a remote Nepali village, spending 10 days in a Buddhist monastery.
