About Me

I'm a 26-year old Australian man, but you probably already guessed that. I have two bachelors degrees. Neither of them seem to be particularly useful.

So, I spend a lot of time playing music (mainly a trumpeter and singer by trade, but I can make noises on lots of stuff) and brewing/winemaking/distilling etc.

I'm a creative cook, wildly overenthusiastic dancer, big ol' beer nerd, and generally affable person.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling the US from June to September, solo. I'm on couchsurfing because my options are either hostels or couches, and I'd much rather meet locals than yet more of that thronging horde of travelling Australians that occupy backpacker joints around the world.

I've travelled extensively (mainly in Europe) and have usually found that staying on couches is heaps more fun than the alternative. Also, not to blow my own trumpet (though I should practice more), but people seem to like me. You might like me! I'll buy you beer, and then tell you all about its characteristics!

Interests

- I love live music, playing it and listening to it. I'll want to go to any gig that looks halfway decent.

- All elements of brewing, from the field to the glass, I get very excited about. I grow a lot of my own brewing ingredients. Drinking is also pretty OK, I guess.

- Food-wise I'm getting more and more into smoking. Haven't built my cold-smoker yet but I have plans!

Music, Movies, and Books

Love most music so it's hard to pinpoint, but if pressed I'd nominate Tom Waits and Otis Redding as my big two.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This year I grew some giant pumpkins, hollowed them out, and brewed beer and cider inside them. Pretty proud of that!

Also I gave Pitbull the finger, and he saw me, and he looked very slightly hurt. That was a great day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a welcome addition to any pub trivia team. The breadth and depth of my useless knowledge is quite breathtaking.

Also the aforementioned beer, music, and international politics disciplines are areas I specialise in, if you're into that sort of thing.

From my hosts I'd like to learn how their city or neighbourhood works, how people live in these places I only understand through TV, and how to engage in all the diversity and interest in their corner of the world. Also where the good bars are.

Actually, mainly that last one. And where I can get new shoes, mine are likely to fall apart at some point.

What I Can Share with Hosts

The main thing I can share is a positive and curious approach to life and travel. I can also share my harmonicas but they're kind of full of my saliva so I doubt that's a particularly attractive option.
