About Me

Hey folks, I'm Daniel!

I'm guy from Cologne, western Germany who loves to travel (of course I do....), the art of photo- and videography and music of all kinds. Not individual enough? Guess what, I also love good food of all kitchen styles and - of course - music, listening as well as playing! To complete the tinder-bio: I'm a connoisseur of beer and spirits, a non-smoker and part time weed consumer. If you feel that vibe, we gonna be good friends!

To pay the rent for my overpriced apartment in the center of the city, I work as a freelance art director in marketing and advertising and besides that I'm doing all kinds of illustrations or abstract digital art. I'd describe myself as a very kind, open minded person who is willing to break rules or laws to explore the world that surrounds me. My motto: "Poor risk assessment creates great stories" (and pictures!).

- - - - - - - - NOW COMES THE IMPORTANT STUFF! - - - - - - - -

I'm going on a crazy trip across Europe together with Tim Kohlen! We are on the road from August 15th until September 11th. We're stopping by in Lisbon, Porto, Madrid, Toulouse, Warsaw, Stockholm and Sofia! If you have any kind of free space to sleep for us, may it be a bed, a couch or your dogs basket, we'll be thankful!
And even better: If you save us the bucks we'd spent on hostels or hotels, we're willing to offer you one of our thanks-for-your-couch options! You can find these in my picture gallery. Ever wanted to fly a drone, have a song composed about your home or to be served with a very german dinner? Then this is your chance!

So, we're not only searching for a place to sleep but also for people to hang out with and maybe get to know the secret spots and true gems far from the beaten path in your beautiful hometown. But if you are a busy person, or just feel like you gave shelter to two complete morons, we're totally fine with exploring on our own. Then it's enough to show us the way to the next café with free wifi!

I hope you want to support us on this adventure and become a part of it in any way! You can see the full trip with specific dates, when and where, in my public trips section. You are also invited to follow our journey on • Instagram: @harkore_auftour• if you want to grab some valuable travelling tips, beautiful imagery from the stated cities or just see our faces of full despair while rushing to the airport trying to catch a flight.

Thanks and hope to see you soon, Tim & Daniel

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to get out of my comfort zone and find new places. When I'm talking about exploring a new country or place, getting to know the people who live there is a significant part of it. Nothing is more annoying to me than feeling as a tourist in a place I am new to. I want to dive deeper and the best way doing that is to be around with locals who know culture and secrets you can not read in a travel guide. This is what I expect from my journeys and this is what I will try my best to offer to guests!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is one of my big passions. I've played piano for 13 years and still cannot read sheet music as I played everything by heart or listened to music and tried to play along. That's why I'm really into any music that sounds good, has nice harmonies or experimental sounds. No specific genre, but to name a few artists I like music by Ben Khan, Fil Bo Riva, Alt-J, Chet Faker, Moderat, Two Feet or RY X. When it comes to partying, I really like Techno music. Not that R'n'B type of guy.

To find a movie that gets my attention, it needs more than just Peter Jackson explosions or bad jump scares. I'm more into stuff that keeps you thinking even when the film is over. Directors who really master this task are Christopher Nolan or Martin Scorsese. But I'm also a lot into good, clever comedy movies. Napoleon Dynamite or basically everything with Jonah Hill is fine!

Book.... I don't really read books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbing on an abandoned 300 meter skyscraper in Bangkok with nothing but ropes and a backpack to watch the sunset? Travelling 1.800 km in a week from London to Berlin without backpack, phone or money? Chasing the northern lights in Iceland, sleeping in the car for days? I got loads of these, and am probably happy to tell you about it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to use your camera right (even though you might think I could not because I'm visually disabled) or tell you the best way to travel without any money or resources. Sure there is a lot more I am able to share my knowledge about, but let's just see where the flow goes.
