About Me

I was born and raised in Anchorage, AK until i was 18. Around 7 years ago I moved to Pennsylvania for college. After college i fell in love with the community i was living in and decided to stay. I got a job, met a girl, and finally got married!

I have a desire to hitchhike/backpack around different parts of the world, meet new people from cultures i know nothing about, try new foods i've never considered, and run and be outside in places i've never been.

CURRENTLY my wife and i are living in Anchorage, AK until we work as tour guides this summer in the Last Frontier!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Some friends of mine took me couchsurfing one time and I fell in love with the idea. I love the idea of staying in random places and meeting people i would not otherwise get to know. Currently, my wife and i are "in transition" and not living permanently in a place so there is no ability to host others. When i did live somewhere, i loved the opportunity and ability to bless others with a comfortable place to sleep, eat, and stay.

Accommodation and food CAN (don't HAVE to) cost a lot when traveling or going to new places. If people (myself included) can help each other over those issues, then that is a good, good thing. Couchsurfing is a perfect platform to help people, meet people, and genuinely care about people. I have loved hosting others and i feel humbled and grateful when i am hosted.

Interests

Hiking, reading, outdoors, biking, hammocking, eating healthy, eat desserts (ironic huh?) TRAVELING. I love just DOING things instead of sitting.

I really, really, REALLY love running . Some goals are to run
-From sunrise til sunset (on a clear day)
-From sunset til sunrise (on a clear night)
-A 50 km race
-Pikes Peak Marathon (26.2 mi roundtrip, 8000 ft gain and subsequent loss)

Music, Movies, and Books

This isn't even a fair question. I'd love to answer this more in person but SOME of my favorite books:
-Into the Wild
-Your Money or your life
-Education of a wandering man
-Born to Run
-Dr. Zhivago
-Life of Pi
-All the LOTR's and Hobbit
-All the Broken Empire Trilogy
-Walden Pond

and many, many others

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gone skinny dipping IN a lake IN Alaska IN the mountains NEAR bear tracks WHILE it was snowing.

Asked my wife to marry me to marry me on the top of the Kuliouou Ridge in Hawaii right after an incoming ballistic missile threat

-Hiked TO Everest (not to the summit)
-Swam in the Dead Sea
-Had a sea lion surface near me while kayaking in Prince William Sound.
-Had a grey whale surface and scare the crap out of me in Puget Sound
-Swam with pods of dolphins off the west coast of Oahu.
-Slept on top of a mountain in fall in Alaska and woke up, cozy warm @ 20 degrees to a clear, blue, morning sky

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy genuine conversations about that which people are passionate about. Even if i have no interest in the subject, IF people are passionate about it then it matters to them and that makes me curious.

I love talking about running; specifically barefoot running. I enjoy the idea of pushing yourself to physical limits. I'm interested in health and the human body. Eating, moving, living are all topics i love to discuss.
