Overview
About Me
I'm just starting a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Kent, so at quite a juncture in my life, in between cities and starting a whole new chapter. Its what I like to do though, not standing still in what I want to do in life. Wanting to be a philosopher also means that I can spend my life following my interests, asking questions and trying but likely always failing, to find answers.
I love to talk, and listen. Every chance to do so is a chance to learn, and that is what I enjoy the most, and find most central to life in general. Meeting people for me is always about this social interaction, the chance to experience, enjoy and grow.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It's always been for me about travelling around meeting people, having somewhere to stay, but in turn to meet people who are travelling and return the favour of hosting, in a roundabout way.
At the moment, I can't host due to being between cities and homes. So I'm looking for places to stay as I look to move, as well as to meet people in the place in the place I am to call home for the next three years.
Interests
I am an autodidact. If Im not working or officially studying, then I am learning to its core another materially useless remnant of an intellectual past. I'm always willing to share this knowledge, and absorb all anyone has to give me in return.
I used to be heavily into music, playing guitar, DJing at parties. But as I get older and more busy it has taken a backseat. I still love to listen to my favourites, find new ones, and as always talk and share.
My current obsession is Wine. I love everything about it. How it's grown and made, all of the intricate differences between grape and region, finding out new varieties and stories, and, of course drinking it and enjoying it. This is all an inherently social activity and I think it is able to bring people together in so many ways.
Music, Movies, and Books
I think it's almost impossible to zero on favourites in such vast and wide ranging categories. It's something that is better to explore through long and extended discussion. It's something that changes on the exact question asked, and on the setting and context in which discussed.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Although it may not be amazing in the orthodox manner, I fracture-dislocated my ankle playing rugby, which resulted in my foot facing the wrong way round, the sight of which was amazing in itself. The biggest impact of this though is how life-altering it was, making me realise how things can turn for (what seemed to be) the absolute worst at any moment and made me take on life in a whole different manner. I'm just thankful it wasn't anything too serious that gave me this slight-epiphany.
Teach, Learn, Share
Pick a subject and I'll have a factoid about it.
My academic specialty is philosophy of science so I can teach you anything from that store of knowledge on philosophy and science.
Would love to learn some new languages (any amount of any language).
Share knowledge about wine, to teach and learn. All over a bottle of course.
