About Me

I would describe myself as a free spirited traveller and curious for anything new. I've seen a lot of places I'd say, I travelled to the States, Bali, Hong Kong and Africa, I spent 6 months surfing in Australia, I lived and worked in London for a few months, I spent some time in Cuba, did an exchange semester in Buenos Aires and worked in a surf school in Costa Rica. I saw pretty much all of Europe in my VW bus. I play the drums and the guitar and I just quit my job at a music venue where I organised concerts and a festival. It was awesome, I was there for 4 years (on and off), but now it's time for something new. I'd like to get some experience in permaculture, deepen my guitar skills and singing (there are NO skills at all yet, got to start somewhere) and potentially do some sailing (maybe across the big pond...?). I'm a culture and language enthusiast. I love reading. And I'm a vegetarian, and hobby vegan. Damn, cheese is good, but I'm getting there...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's just a great way to meet people (e.g. compared with a hostel...) and a good way of exchange. Oh, I probably should explain that I've done quite some couchsurfing already, I just didn't have a profile yet (always went with friends or stayed with people I randomly met). But now I'm going away for a long time, so I thought it would be a good idea. Also in the shared flat I lived in, my flatmate had a profile and we hosted quite some people, EVERY single experience was good.

Music, Movies, and Books

music: shit, there's loads I love... From The Brian Jonestown Massacre to Manu Chao, Clinic to La Rue Kétanou. So I'd say my favourite styles are psychedelic rock, 60's and 70's garage, reggae and chanson. I also like certain electronic music, but it has to be a little smart. If I get dragged to a house music party where everyone moves (their bodies and especially their fingers) the same way for 8 hours I get enormously bored. I like Bonobo and Darkside for example. And anything with bass, root dubstep / grime and also drum'n'bass.

movies: I love watching films, but I find it hard to define exactly what sorts of films. I like the Marx brothers, I enjoyed "The diabolical Dr. Z" (an old horror film), but also I really appreciate a captivating documentary. I like Jim Jarmusch as a director (not so much as a musician, he played at our festival)

books: soooo many ! Here's an idea: Just finished a 1000-pages book about Mao. He was quite a guy... Now I'm reading a book about Cuba after the revolution. Some of the books I really enjoyed: short stories by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, English pigeon, The catcher in the rye, Shantaram, ...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess... my life !
I'm happy with how things went so far and I don't have any big regrets which I appreciate a lot.
I quit university because I was convinced that was the wrong way for me. In Switzerland that's quite a thing. Against all odds I found a job I really loved and I'm still convinced I can contribute more this way, by sharing knowledge and learning by doing.

Teach, Learn, Share

"love and do what do you want" (quote Roberto Benigni)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach: about sailing, practising French, German and English.
Depending on your level of guitar playing (I'm pretty bad) I can show you some basic chords or teach you an easy song. If you're any good I expect you to show me something ;)
And my friends say I'm a good cook.

I'd like to learn: more Spanish ! I've spent quite some time in Spanish speaking countries and yet, I'm not fluent... And about permaculture ! Ways how to live a sustainable life.
