About Me

I'm a Finnish high school graduate eager to travel and go to various places before life catches onto me. I think of myself as a fun, positive and encouraging person to be around. I enjoy learning new things, looking up useless history trivia and reading up on weird Wikipedia articles. Right now studying in Aberdeen, north of Scotland.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The idea of connecting with people from all over the world and getting to know countries and cultures through the people that live there is absolutely amazing and something I'd like to be part of. I'm currently not capable of hosting anyone so I'm here mainly for the couches and to meet up with people, but I do hope to some day return the favour and host other keen travellers.

Interests

I like listening to music and reading, and I also enjoy watching various TV-series (mostly depressing British crime dramas) on Netflix. My favourite colour is the colour black even though it's not so much a colour than it is a shade. I love learning new languages and recipes, and spending time with friends over good coffee or tea in a cosy café.

Since coming to Aberdeen I've developed an interest in powerlifting, and I have also played basketball back in the day. I like sports in general and playing with friends or trying out new things. Out of all seasons of the year, Autumn is the best and October is forever my favourite month of the year for at least five reasons that I can think of.

Music, Movies, and Books

Due to my sister being five years older than me and actually having a taste in music earlier than me, I grew up listening to whatever my sister listened. Thanks to that, I nowadays appreciate nearly any kind of music. I do fancy certain genres more than others though, like indie and house/techno. Check me out on Spotify: Daniela Karumaa.

I really like watching movies, and have a bunch of favourites. I like the weird ones and the funny ones, but I also fancy a bit of action (or a lot of action, in some cases - give me a Bond movie anytime). My recent favourites are "Amy", the Amy Winehouse documentary, and "Gone Girl" that's based on a novel by Gillian Flynn.

I enjoy reading and I often read my favourites over and over again. Having grown up with the Harry Potter -series it is needless to say that it is one of my all time favourites, but I do like me some Scandinavian literature as well. A few of my favourite Scandinavian novelists include Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbø and my favourite Finnish writer is Kari Hotakainen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've performed on stage in an opera house in Helsinki as a part of a theatre piece about Finland's Winter War (1939-44), and I've climbed the Great Wall of China.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can have a go at teaching people Finnish if they want to learn, or just a good bunch of Finnish (and Swedish) swearwords. There are a lot, it's only a matter of linking words. Sharing a laugh is always fun as well, and I do laugh quite a bit.
