About Me

Hola, hello!

I am Mexican.

CURRENT MISSION

Meet people, exchange culture, make friends.

ABOUT ME

I am easy-going, open-minded, respectful, tidy. I would describe myself more as a quiet person, however I am friendly and approachable, and I can definitely enjoy a night out. People have described me as weird or quirky but in a good way, and that's fine by me :-)

PHILOSOPHY

Enjoy and appreciate life, be kind, be grateful, be respectful. Go with the flow unless the flow sucks; if so, change the flow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A friend recommended Couchsurfing to me when I mentioned a Europe trip I was planning. I never really knew what it was about, and now that I've joined I regret not having done it earlier, as it seems to be so much more than just getting a couch to sleep on; from what I have seen, it is a community and a way to create friendships, even if they're long-distance, and that sounds really cool to me.

In my travels so far I've stayed either at hostels or with family friends, because I quickly discovered that it is not so easy to be hosted on Couchsurfing if you are new and lack references :-( Despite this, my experience at hostels has been really great and I have met a lot of amazing people, so I am really grateful for that. And now, back in Mexico, I cannot host at the moment for lack of space, but I am still glad to meet fellow couchsurfers and hang out.

Interests

My interests include: reading, photographing, cooking, baking, running, surfing, slacklining, dancing, learning, and exploring.

I enjoy nature, science, and sustainability. And food, both cooking and eating it. I have a ruthless sweet tooth.

Music, Movies, and Books

"Favorite" is a strong word that I try to avoid.

In music, I can tell you what I've been listening to very recently: Dan Auerbach, Weezer, Beck, Pink Floyd, Major Lazer, The Kills, Janis Joplin, Chet Faker, La Femme, Blood Orange, Kendrick Lamar.

I am partial to these movies: Amelie, The Fifth Element, Space Balls, El Laberinto del Fauno, The Yellow Submarine, Lord of the Rings, Donnie Darko, The Matrix.

As a child, the Harry Potter books were my introduction to reading for pleasure, so they were definitely important. As a teenager I read a lot of fantasy involving dragons and such, so I'll always have a special place in my heart for that genre... I liked reading Garth Nix and Neil Gaiman too. Books i've read recently: Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. One book that really moved me: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I began learning to surf two years ago. The kind of surfing that is done in the ocean on a surfboard! I say "began" because I'm not sure you ever really stop learning to surf. It is an amazing sport that I was afraid of trying, but once I did, I do not hesitate in saying that it is one of the most thrilling, fun, challenging activities I've ever done. I surf whenever I can, which means whenever I visit family in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

Another amazing thing that I did was to travel alone through Europe. I had never done much travelling before, and I admit that I was a bit scared before embarking on that Europe trip. But it was of course an incredibly enriching experience, and I am so so happy that I did it alone.

Teach, Learn, Share

Although I did not grow up there, I was born in Mexico City and I've lived there for the past 12 years. I can help fellow couchsurfers get a local experience of the city, and offer a ton of help and advice for navigating it and all it has to offer.

I have gained a lot of perspective in my travels, and therefore grown a lot more appreciative of my country. So if I meet you, it is likely that I will try and convince you that coming back to Mexico is a wonderful idea. Which it is.

What I Can Share with Hosts

If you want to improve your Spanish or English, I am fluent in both and have experience in teaching.

I can share my culture, my company, and my personality.
