Sobre mí

ABOUT ME

After a year of traveling around 23 countries, living on a 12-kilo backpack (that I named "the green sock") and being hosted on CS quite frequently, I learned that in every place I visited, there was people willing to meet or host travelers just for the pleasure of experiencing cultural exchange. Despite all odds, this still happens on this social network world.

Having that said, if I request to stay at your place, these are the highlights: I am a mexican millennial (whatever that means), proud of my culture and heritage while very curious about other cultures and languages. I lived in the US for 4 years during my university studies but I am currently doing market research for a living in San Miguel de Allende.

I grew up among musical instruments (my parents even had a band when they were dating) so I play the guitar and ukulele. I might bring the latter with me when I travel but apologize in advance if my repertoire is limited.

I enjoy going to live shows, concerts, film festivals and art exhibits, so count me in if you're planning on attending one.

I am a photography enthusiast, so I bring my camera everywhere I go, specially if it is a new place.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I started surfing in 2014 for a random trip and I loved it. I find amazing how surfing enhances your experience of the local life that you cannot experience in traditional accommodation options. Therefore, it has been my travel mode since then. Special thanks to my hosts and other couchsurfers along the way:

James - New York City, USA / Eric - Portland, USA / Nicholas - Portland, USA / Mau - Seattle, USA / Will and Reed - Seattle, USA / Gene (Francesco and Cherrie) - Seattle, USA / Carlitos - Bogotá, Colombia / Diana and Francisco - Medellin, Colombia / Pedro - Belo Horizonte, Brazil / Eugi and Rafa - Florianópolis, Brazil / Gonzalo - Montevideo, Uruguay / Rudy - Piriápolis, Uruguay / Cristian - Santiago, Chile / Harold - Santiago, Chile / Felipe - Viña del Mar, Chile / Julien - Travel buddy in SA / Edu - La Serena, Chile / Andrés and los chiquillos - La Serena, Chile / Silvia - Lima, Peru / Luz - Berlin, Germany / Marina - Utrecht, Netherlands / Lazlo - Budapest, Hungary / Patricia - Roma, Italy / Pietro - Perugia, Italy / Janne - Oslo, Norway / Jena and Oscar - London, UK / Ines and André - Porto, Portugal / Lalo - Madrid, Spain / Francesco (again) - Paris, France...

When hosting, I offer a nice and comfy sofa bed as a reciprocity act for all my hosts who opened their doors when I needed.

Música, películas y libros

My list of favorite tunes changes every week. From indie rock to bossa nova. Can't do reggeaton nor metal.

Favorite Bands:
Alt-J, Foals, The Doors, Bonobo, British Sea Power, Caetano Veloso, Chet Faker, Chinese Man, Crashing dreams, Devendra Banhart, Pink Floyd, Mulatu Astatke, Adriana Calcanhotto, Criolo, Daisuke Tanabe, Disclosure, El Búho, Seu Jorge, Quantic, The Whitefield Brothers, Radiohead, Diiv, Soda Stereo and Cerati, Darkside, José González, Kings of Convenience, Ratatat, Sonido Gallo Negro, Rodrigo Amarante, Röyksopp, Temples, Tom Waits, Wild Beasts, Yo La Tengo among others.

Confession: Despite the fact that I am mexican, I do not like tequila or super spicy stuff. I can't say I know mariachi/ ranchero songs since my parents were hippies who listened and played latin american protest songs when I was a kid.

Favorite Books:
Mostly latin american writers like García Márquez, Octavio Paz, Cortázar, among others. In english, Palahniuk, Kerouac, Paul Auster, Bukowski, Herman Hess, Murakami. In portuguese, Jorge Amado and Saramago.

Favorite movies: From Aronovsky to Jim Jarmush, Spike Jonze, Lars von trier, Iñiarritu, Sofía Coppolla and Tarantino stuff. Favorite documentary: The salt of the earth.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Made it into a natural oasis in Peru after the bus broke in the middle of the Ica Desert.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

TEACH: If you are interested in learning Spanish and its slang, I can definitely make you sound like a local. Cursing words are mandatory in Mexican Spanish.

LEARN: Please share with me your favorite tunes and country history.

SHARE: I can share a bottle of mezcal, a good laugh, sarcasm, an umbrella, a road trip, a blanket. Not my pillow... sorry :(
