Chi sono

CURRENT MISSION

Traveling the world, meeting lots of people and share stories to make a better world

ABOUT ME

Hi! Daniel is my name but you can call me Dan or Daan. Twenty six years old at the moment but age doesn't matter to me. Just be who you are. My hometown is Hoofddorp, a city close to Amsterdam. I finished High School in 2012 and worked three jobs for six months, saved up money and started traveling the world for eight months until the end of 2013! It got to me and so I left home again at the beginning of 2016. I went back to Asia for six months and lived in New Zealand until July 2017. And again went back home but had to leave again so here I am in Canada, on a work permit to see what life will bring me here. I am a very spontaneous, creative and open-minded person. Very laid back as well, low maintenance and I just go with the flow. I love adventurous people.

PHILOSOPHY

Live by the day and enjoy every minute you have alive. Be who you are and do not pretend to be someone you are not because it will make you unhappy ( I know). One thing I want to accomplish is visiting and meeting as many people and places as possible and share stories of experiences.

Perché sono iscritto su Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was very active on CS during my first trip around the world. My last big trip (Asia and New Zealand) I wasn't that active anymore because I just didn't feel it and stayed with friends a lot. Now that I am in Canada and plan to travel I want to use it again and get involved.

I have been doing CS for around eight years now and I met a lot of people already who had heard of it but had never done it. It feels good to tell people about CS and get them excited, the way I am excited about it. It's just the greatest way of traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots of CS experiences in the Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, New Zealand, the USA and Canada. It's a great way of communication and to meet new people and see more of the world. I would also love to show other people things I enjoy and where I live and what I do. I did a CS campervan relocation from Auckland to Christchurch with two other CS'ers! Amazing roadtrip :)

Interessi

I am interested in meeting new people, learn about their cultures, traveling, taking pictures and photoshop them and videotaping. I like to be very active and I am a very productive person. I also love snowboarding, playing games, enjoying good conversations, walking/ hiking, cycling, diving, presenting, acting and video-editing.

Musica, film e libri

Usually I don't grant myself the time to read.. I should, I know, but I just can't find the time to relax and grab a good book. Might do that though while traveling because it can enrich your life. I do watch movies, all kinds.

Una cosa incredibile che ho fatto

An exchange year in the States, living with a host family for a year.

Amazing things seen;
- Amazing Colorado USA
- Lovely island Aruba
- Plitvice National Park Croatia
- Chaotic Bangkok
- Diving paradise Ko Tao, Thailand
- Limestone cliff island Phi Phi, Thailand
- Jungle forest Khao Sok, Thailand
- New hometown KL, Malaysia
- Cool tea plantations Cameron Highlands, Malaysia
- Coolest island ever Langkawi, Malaysia
- Cleanest and no boring at all city Singapore
- Hulking Hong Kong
- Gamble Paradise Macau and sleeping on the concrete of the airport.
- Motorbiking heaven (or hell) Vietnam and sleeping on the street in Dalat waiting for my couchsurf host to open her door to welcome me, haha.
- Losing my whole life in Ho Chi Minh City. Just lovely to get robbed and lose your passport, money and all your other valuable stuff :)
- Beautiful Abel Tasman national park in New Zealand
- Awesome Franz Josef Glacier and exploring a relatively unknown tunnel with gumboots with a torch to see glow worms.
- Fiji with its amazing and loving people
- Gay capital of the world San Fran and getting drunk in Castro every night and stumble back to the hostel through the worst neighbor hoods of town.
- Sleeping in a rental car for three nights because my sister and I got stuck in British Columbia (Canada) because of the worst floodings ever in Alberta.
- Greyhound experiences in the US, not recommended. Share rides people, much better idea.
- Mooning in front of cops (I didn't see) in downtown Indianapolis, whoopsy!
- Being told to get the hell out of this area this time of night in Baltimore because of the dangerousness, whoops?
- See the amazing NYC skyline and sunset from the Rockefeller.
- Explore the greatness of Iceland
- Lovely Paris
- Exploring all corners of Bali, Indonesia with my ex-boyfriend for two weeks.
- Seeing the Aurora Borealis in northern Norway and Sweden for three days in a row. This was such an amazing and magical experience!
- Getting lost in the mountains of Nepal for two days without water, climbing rocks falling and getting a black eye and basically trying to survive.
-Living and working amongst polar bears in the town of Churchill in the Arctic of Canada
- Learn how to work with sled dogs! I am a musher now!

And so much more, this is just what came up in me for now.
