About Me
Hello!
My name is Daniel and I am 27 years old. I consider myself to be a positive and outgoing people person. I really love embarking on new adventures.
Deciding to backpack 4 months around South America and live in Washington state for 1.5 years taught me a lot. Experiences like these have opened my eyes to a new culture and were a contributing factor in learning the importance of being open-minded and to be willing to step out of your comfort zone.
Another value I try to live by is being empathetic and being open to play. I try to not take life too seriously, and embrace my inner child when I have the space to do so, that's why I, for example, love climbing and dancing. This is something that I find gets harder to remember when you get older
Whats my next adventure?
I am about to fly to Thessaloniki (from the 11th-22nd of August 2023) to partake in an Erasmus Conference about discrimination and people with disabilities. I am really curious about Greece and the city and would love to hang out (maybe stay for a few nights) with a local :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I am here to experience what life has to offer, through traveling and connecting with people from all over the world. I am here to learn about new cultures but another value of mine is having new awesome experiences, that I can look back on and appreciate. Furthermore, a big value of mine is to develop as an individual and I feel that I do that by getting to know new people, new cultures and by stepping into the more unfamiliar.
Interests
One of my interests is self-development and I look for new ways to improve myself and help improve others as well. One of the ways I do this is by working at a self-development/leadership camp called True North based in Denmark. I work with young teenagers to give them tools that they can use in order to be the best version of themselves. Making a difference in someone else's life is something that I really love.
I also love doing sports, especially basketball, which I have played for 3 years of my life other than that give me any kind of ball and I am down for anything. I recently also got in to dancing House, which has been an awesome world to delve into. I also enjoy backpacking, being in nature, learning, going to concerts, exploring cities and of course having a fun time.

Music, Movies, and Books
I am an avid listener of all genres of music, however I am a big fan of Hip-Hop. Artists in the genre of hip-hop include: Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Chance The Rapper. I grew up with all kinds of music, but jazz in particular so I also like artists like Frank Sinatra, Louis Amstrong, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Erroll Garner.
Some books that I enjoy is self-help books mainly, but one book I really enjoyed is a stoic philosophy book called Stillness Is The Key by Ryan Holiday. I also like books like Vagabonding by Rolf Potts, Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach, Letter To My Son by Ta-Nehisi Coates and many others.
Also a massive fan of political, self-development, philosophy podcasts like Tim Ferriss Show, Rich Roll Podcast, NPR, Talk Easy with Sam Fagrasso and Your Undivided Attention by Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin!
I enjoy watching movies, some of which being Black Swan, The Anchorman, Arrival, Soul, Goofy The Movie, Entergalactic, Brother Bear.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There's one particular moment that comes to mind. There was one time where I worked as a Team Leader for young people for the first time. On the 5th evening of the camp, a young teenager came up to me looking me in my eyes and said ''thank you for teaching me that it is okay to show my feelings and cry''. I would definitely put that experience up there among one of the most amazing things I've done. Another amazing travel experience I've had is riding an elephant up to a palace in Jaipur, India while the sun was going down :)

''Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God/other higher entity. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.'' - Marianne Williamson
