About Me

I am a biologist who is currently applying to graduate school. I graduated from UCLA in 2016 and took some time to work and gain experience. I have worked with tiger salamanders, steelhead trout, and more recently sea turtles! My family loved going on cruises for vacation growing up, but I am ready to travel and experience new places for a longer period of time. I am Mexican-American but I do not speak Spanish and learning to speak the language is something very important to me. Before I start graduate school in the fall, I will be traveling for about 6 months - by myself! It's going to be a great adventure and I hope to meet many travelers along the way to share experiences with!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm couchsurfing because I am no longer making excuses about traveling. I have yet to travel and do not have any stamps in my passport and I want to change that! I plan to travel by myself for now but I still want to experience each place I travel to with a more personal touch instead of just seeing the touristy places and I feel that Couchsurfing will be a wonderful community to meet people and enjoy a bit of time with someone new in each place I visit. Currently nomadic and don't have a home base, but once I do I look forward to hosting fellow travelers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love the singer song writer genre. Ed Sheeran, Hozier, George Ezra, Halsey are some of my favorite artists. I also enjoy jazz. I love most Disney movies and period pieces - Anna Karenina is one of my all time favorite movies and I just bought the book to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently just spent the summer living on the island of St. Croix in the Caribbean. I was working with the National Park Service on Buck Island monitoring hawksbill and green sea turtle nesting beaches. It was long nights, often getting caught in the rain but it was the best experience I have ever had. Sitting with a turtle taking her measurements while she laid her eggs on the beach with the waves crashing behind me and the Milky Way visible above me....an experience I will never forget!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories about California, St. Croix, and being a field biologist. I'm going to be water coloring throughout my travels so I'd love to go on adventures with people and stop here and there to paint some views.
