About Me

*PROFILE IS NOT UP TO DATE*
We are Danielle (brown hair) and Julia (blonde) from Germany, currently living in the US as au pairs and looking for our first couch surfing experience. We love to travel and get to know new people on our way. (August 2019)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We came to the US to get as many new experiences as possible. We feel like Couchsurfing is the perfect opportunity for us to travel like a local. We can get to know new people and share thoughts and experiences with each other. We can learn a lot about people and other cultures. We are really respectful, responsible and open-minded people. We are seeking to have a real travel experience. Of course we could just book an airbnb. But - is that personal? Not really. Can we share something about culture there? No. Can we get personal recommendations on what to do in the city we are visiting/ an opinion on the city which develop throughout a nice chat? I don’t think so.
All those things are important to us, so we are convinced Couchsurfing is great for us.

Music, Movies, and Books

We like different kinds of music. For example, Danielle and I went to a Quinn XCII (hip hop , pop, dance) concert here in St. Louis together, which was a great experience. We like Jon Bellion a lot as well as some German artists such as SXTN or Trailerpark.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We left our home country Germany for a year and moved to a completely new country (US). We didn’t know anybody and had to speak a new language. We didn’t know what would happen and how we would get along with the situation. We took a pretty big risk. Now, 11 months later, we can proudly say that this was one of the best decisions we ever made. We met so many amazing people here, are completely fluent in English now, have a place (St. Louis) we call our second home, have a host family we love, traveled so many places, overcame some of our greatest fears (for Danielle riding on a plane and for Julia driving in a completely new country), gained so many new experiences and grew as people. We can definitely say that we are proud of ourselves. And the best thing - if we wouldn’t have done the gap year, we probably never would have met. So we are very grateful for every that has happened those past 11 months and wouldn’t wanna trade it for anything.

Teach, Learn, Share

We are happy to share our German traditions (and language) with you in case you are interested in that!

What I Can Share with Hosts

We would love to share whatever you want to learn/ get to know more about!
We can share our language - German. It is really fun to learn some German words, some are easy, others are really hard to pronounce. Try it yourself: squirrel is „Eichhörnchen“ in German. (Okay you caught us, that was one of the hardest words haha)
We would also love to share how German culture is different from American culture or also other cultures. Believe us, after living here for 11 months now, we experienced a lot of things - positive and negative.
When it comes to cooking, we are probably not the best cooks. However, if you would like to know more about German cuisine, I‘m sure we can find some meal we can prepare for you! :)
We can also share a lot of our basic knowledge about Germany if you’re interested in learning more about the country. Since we just graduated from high school and are about to start University in Germany in fall, we can especially tell you a lot about the educational system in Germany, but you can ask us about anything!
