About Me
Howdy ho there, neighbourinos!
I am a 25 year old university dropout, from Brisbane, Australia. I used to refer to Brisbane as a 'large but boring city', but now that I've done a bit of travelling, I've come to appreciate my city in a whole new light and I hope to be able to---- okay, who are we kidding? Brisbane is still a little bland and I know that, but I also have come to the realisation that one's experience in a city, whichever city that may be, is what you make it and I would love to be able to share my favourite things about this town with travellers.
Belieeeeeve me when I say that I understand Couchsurfing can be a very stressful experience for travellers - you send out 10 messages for just one city and you get maybe 2 responses, right? It takes time and a lot more effort than staying at a hostel and I can empathise with the frustration that ensues from trying to find a host! I've been there and done that, but I can attest that it's definitely worth it. In saying that, please take the time to read my profile. If you choose to stay with me, I will be sure to make you feel welcome in my home. I will always respond to your request, even if I can't host you, but I will know if you've just sent out a copy and paste type message, so please take just 5 minutes to write something a little more personal.
I digress....
Having attempted two different degrees, I decided that I'd rather accumulate debt having cool, life experiences, than spending hours upon hours writing incomprehensible assignments and sitting in lectures whereby you could tell that even the lectures resented their own subject matter. *Enter: moving to Canada*.
In 2012 I moved to Canada for a year, which I very much enjoyed; met plenty of awesome people, saw plenty of awesome sights, ate plenty of awesome food. Skip forward to mid 2013 when I decided to return to the Motherland to "sort my life out" which more or less involved getting a job which I hated, and attempting to return to uni for approximately 7 weeks, before coming to the abrupt realisation that its not necessarily the degrees, but the actual university thing. SO! I worked for a while longer and then moved over to the United Kingdom, chasing experiences, and perhaps maybe even possibly (I'm very indecisive!) having a life changing epiphany whilst I'm over here in order to answer the big question: WHAT DO I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE? I am sort of yelling that question in my mind, though I'm not an angry, yelly person, I promise!
Whilst in the UK, I worked at Waterstones Booksellers at Piccadilly Circus in London. I had a bloody ball - I had a lot of highs and a lot of lows and learnt from them all, but most importantly, I met some wonderful people who have become lifelong friends and now have memories which I will cherish forever (a bit cheesy, but haters gonna hate!) I also got to see a lot of Europe and the UK and even went to Morocco and camped in the Saharan Desert, which was perhaps one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
I'm now back in Brisbane where I am working as a Disability Support Worker, which I totally adore and hope to be doing for a very long time! In my spare time, I am hoping to be able to host travellers in my home OR if I can't commit to that but have a day free I would be happy to show you around my fair city!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I use Couchsurfing because I believe that its an awesome way to exchange cultures and share travel stories with people whom you wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. I also love that Couchsurfing makes the world just that little bit smaller.
Couchsurfing was very kind to me as a traveller, so now it's time to give back!
Interests
In a general sense, I will try anything at least once. I love having new experiences and I appreciate being encouraged by other people to try things that wouldn't have usually crossed my mind - they're usually the most fun!
I love being outdoors among nature, particularly when it comes to large bodies of water (i.e.: the ocean, lakes, rivers, the bathtub, etc...) I do enjoy riding a bike, although one time I was tricked into doing a 20km bike ride up a steep mountain in Austria and it was by no means a pleasant experience. Needless to say, I like easy paced cruises when it comes to bike riding!
I am also very fond of baking, particularly when I'm supposed to be doing something else, of a higher importance; this is what is referred to as "procrasti-baking". Its a fine skill which takes years of not attending to your university work, to perfect.
