About Me
I've been doing a lot of cycling lately - mostly weekend touring. I love hammock camping, but I also like meeting new people and surfing homes and meeting people. I play the 5-string banjo. I'm married to a lovely Japanese woman and we have three teenage daughters. We lived in Minnesota for 13 years, before moving back to Japan. We used to have a cat, but now just a couple of chickens (who think they are cats).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We live in southern Japan, but we like meeting travelers from other countries and it allows my daughters to speak English (and other languages) with someone other than their Pop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 1989, I was once (and only once) snookered into fighting in a Thai kickboxing match (in Thailand). A small village in northern Thailand put on a festival to help pay for a local bridge being built. My boxing match was to be an "exhibition" and the "main event" with a retired former local champion and current policeman. I had never fought before and had only trained at the local boxing gym to keep in shape. I was pretty surprised to see hundreds of people cheering/jeering on the night of our fight. So what happened..? Well, I thankfully lived to tell the tale ;-)
