About Me

### Para hispanohablantes: he traducido parte mi perfil en español más abajo en la página###

Hi! My name is Daniel, and I live in Copenhagen. I was born and raised in Mexico, and spent a long time in sunny Australia. And after a very convoluted and long journey, ended up in the windy foggy shores of east Denmark where I currently reside. I've been on the platform on and off since about 2016 approximately, but have had the pleasure to host and couchsurf many times through my best friend who introduced me to this wonderful community of travellers. I enjoyed hosting dozens of couchsurfers in Sydney where I used to live, and have had great experiences surfing in several countries as well. I would consider myself well travelled, having had visited 77 countries as of November 2024! Some of the countries that I visited hold a special place in my heart because of the people that I met via Couchsurfing, and it is something that I will love to continue doing.

I personally love meeting people who've had the chance to explore the world and gone to some interesting places. Huge plus if they teach me something new, such as making a meal I've never made before! Read ahead for more on surfing rules and other useful information for those who are interested in sending a couch request.

It's important to me that you read my profile in full. If you reach this point in the text so far, good work. I appreciate your dedication to reading my profile, so I will kindly ask you to write in your request the following text: "There is no such thing as a tree". Back on topic, it's important for me to make the most of my free time and for me to have a great time hosting you, so that your experience being hosted is also great.

Due to a change of circumstances I am not currently accepting requests other than strictly emergencies. I appreciate your time reading my profile and I hope your time in Copenhagen is wonderful and as affordable as you can make it (good luck!).

Saludos!

My Couchsurfing experience:

Since I have had plenty of surfing experiences with my wife through her account, I don't have official record of my stays! So I have written down the countries in which I have stayed:
2016: Hong Kong, Mexico
2018: Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Netherlands, Poland twice, USA
2019: Mexico twice, El Salvador, Spain x 5, Iran x 4, Georgia, Lebanon, Israel x 4, USA, Canada, Austria
2020: Ukraine
2021: Norway
2023: Germany
2024: Poland
Total so far: 34

I have also hosted many times, but the hosting has been mostly managed by Sarah so please check her references to see my mentions by other couchsurfers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on couchsurfing because I believe that travelling the world is more than just spending a few bucks to go to a specific place and take a few photos for that Instagram post. Hostels are definitely better than hotels for meeting people, but nothing beats meeting a CS host and spending time with them. Cities and geography shape the personality and spirit of the people that reside in them, and getting to know them gives you a deeper insight and greater meaning to visiting a place. And on top of that couchsurfing gives you a chance to make new friends.

Interests

I love food! There are many cuisines from around the world that I enjoy so I encourage my couchsurfers to cook for me a meal of their culture or a specific dish that they can do well. I love a good craft beer and red wine, but nothing compares to my love of spicy food. I am addicted to coffee after having lived in Australia but I also really like tea, in particular green matcha from Japan, and rooibos from South Africa.

I have plenty of interests to keep me occupied and my wallet staring back at me concerned. Photography is one of my favorite hobbies, but lately mechanical keyboards have taken over my life. I have a passion for renewable energy and sustainability, so I know very well that my travels have really increased my carbon footprint by a whole awful lot. I work in the zero-carbon and renewable energy field so I feel like at least I'm doing an effort to off-set those many kilograms of CO2-e. Also I am fan of electric cars and naturally Formula E! If you're interested in these topics, let's talk!

I am also a space and rocketry nerd. When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut, but I only got so far to become an engineer. That said I do sometimes go for satellite hunting at night, or watch launch streams from SpaceX or Rocket Lab, and even go as far as check out space weather and what the sun is up to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There's definitely a lot of things that I've done that I think are very unique, so I'll list those that stand out the most: Watching a full moon blood red moonrise in the Namibian desert, or seeing the sunset on top of an ancient temple in Bagan, Burma. I have also had the fortune to do Space Camp when I was 10, and it was awesome! Climbing up the Amphitheatre at the Drakensberg Mountain Range, in excess of 3.0 km in altitude, was one of the trickiest hikes/climbs I've ever done. And for our honeymoon, my wife and I did 33 countries in about 10 months. I've cycled 430+ km in Lithuania to attend a company event in order to avoid flying, and I have definitely caught the bikepacking craze. I went to Tomorrowland in 2023 which was incredible.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very curious about the world, because I know very well that I don't know everything and I find learning new things exciting. I am rather talkative as an extroverted introvert; I really like getting to know people and have a good time.

I find interest in a lot of different things, from politics, electricity markets, local weather, aviation, coffee, geography, beer making, cooking, languages, video games, . I really enjoy learning new things.

I can share to my hosts / surfers my company and my enthusiasm for getting to know them and the places they live in. I really like getting a feel of a place and understanding how people live their daily lives amongst the culture, cuisine, music, etc. I also love sharing my own culture as a Mexican and as a third culture kid. My life story is also very interesting so I'm sure there would be lots to talk about! And if the circumstances align I'll be very happy to cook!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share lots of stories and what I know about the world - not that I know everything because I definitely want to learn more about this amazing planet that we live in. Since I have a unique background and life story as well as being easy-going and having a good sense of humor I feel like I can contribute to a conversation very easily.

Also if you're lucky I might cook something awesome while you're staying with us!
