About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to see if I can circle the globe without using air travel.

ABOUT ME

If my friends were asked about me they might mention my capacity for laughter and serious study. I have a deep, abiding love for humanity and this planet, and I want to see as much of it as I can. They might say that I love exploration, whether it's a dense urban metropolis or a forested island.

PHILOSOPHY

Find the Golden Mean in all things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I just started couch surfing, so my participation is minimal. When/if I get back home I would love to host people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While not an official Couch Surfing experience, I once met someone on a train who, after a month and many miles later, invited me to stay with her for some time. It was proof that this world of ours is nothing without the kindness of strangers.

Interests

Other people make my life engaging. They make the world go around. I spend my time daydreaming about the places I want to go and how I want to get there.

Reading, writing, and watching movies are some of my passions. Diving into any sort of artistic expression, in fact, is my favorite way of spending time, especially with someone else. Cooking and enjoying strange cuisine are also passions. Food, at its pinnacle, is art.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy books by Sinclair Lewis, James Hilton, John Steinbeck, and many others. My personal library grows. My time to get through it does not.
I can listen to all sorts of music, whether it's 70s German Electronic or mid-90s Lo-Fi, I run the spectrum.
Movies are my first love. Documentaries are top for me, but I can watch just about anything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Since I was a child I dreamed about watching the sunrise over the open ocean. I grew up the west coast, so this was rendered an impossibility. While on a lengthy train trip around the States I woke up extra early from my hostel in Miami and slowly walked to the beach. In the fading darkness I took off my boots and socks, pulled my pants up to my knees and waded into the warm surf of the Atlantic. Minutes later reality trumped imagination as I watched a perfect golden sunrise. I think I'll remember it forever.

I just climbed the seven hills of Edinburgh. The sun was out and I spends 14 hours ascending and descending, most of the time cutting my own path. Seven times I saw the city from a different vantage and got to look at awe at the hills I had climbed hours earlier. As I climbed my final hill the sun set.

Teach, Learn, Share

Given enough time I could teach someone how to tap dance. That's the best I have.
