About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Currently I am living in Oahu, but I am living at my parents house, so unfortunately I can not host people right now. I have recently made a big life change and am starting to put down some roots. For the last 9 years I have worked as a marine biologist primarily doing fisheries work in Alaska but have also done marine biology worked in Australia, East Timor, and Papua New Guinea. I spent a year teaching swing in China, which is where my wanderlust first started. I am now a special education teach in Honolulu and have been loving living back here in Hawaii. I grew up in Hawaii and living here is what made me decide as a kid that I wanted to become a marine biologist. Now working as a teacher, I can't go on 3-5 month traveling trips but will still get some traveling in.

This next section is from my profile when I first joined Couch Surfing and figured I would leave it here for fun.

I am an American female who loves to travel and play in the sun and ocean. I have a goofy funny personality and I have a big smile the makes my eyes all squinty and gives me dimples. Swimming has been a big part of my life. I have been a competitive swimmer since 4th grade and have coached swimming since I was 15. I spent a year in China coaching swimming. I love to travel with friends and on my own usually mixing the two on long travels. I am a bit of a nerd and start spouting random biology facts. I can't spell or do grammar at all, which you have probably already noticed.

PHILOSOPHY

I go with the flow and see where life takes me. I live week to week and don't plan too much into the future. Some might say that is bad but it has been working out pretty damn well for me so far.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a few friends who have done couch surfing and so I decided to try it out on when I first traveled in Australia. I met some awesome people and have made friends that I keep in contact with and know I will see again

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed a few times in Australia and europe. I wanted to host but don't have any place of my own yet and tend to bounce around between family and friends houses when I am not out at work for months on boats in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico.

Interests

As long as I can remember I have wanted to be a marine biologist. Through the years what a marine biologist has changed. But now I am interested in studying coral reefs and protecting them. I do mean that in the most selfish way, I love coral reefs and I always wanted to be able to swim among them and I think everyone should experience it. I like working with kids because they can make everything fun. Although coming up with new games to play can be challenging my favorite invention of mine has been water baseball. I also love to rock climb and have just been getting into free climb so if anyone has gear and needs a partner let me know.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love fantasy books my favorite authors are JRR Tolkien and Ann McCaffrey. I am a sucker for Dirty Dancing but also love Boondock Saints. I listen too all kinds of music except rap and heavy metal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kayaking around iceberg with whales and penguins swimming around me in Antartica is pretty hard to beat.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach anyone how to swim and I can make you have fun while doing it. I can also improve your stroke. I can teach you how to count in Chinese and the hand signals for it.
