About Me

My name is Danilo Biccari, and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I was born in Johannesburg, and lived there until I was 18 years old. I then moved to Cape Town in 2007 to study Civil Engineering at the University of Cape Town. After getting my degree in 2010, I studied a Masters in Urban Design at the same university, finishing my studies in 2012. I then worked as an engineer on construction sites around South Africa for 2 years, ending in 2014.

Since January 2015, I have been travelling Latin America. I started my travels with 3 other friends from Cape Town in Argentina, and we made our way from the south of Patagonia, up through Chile, into Bolivia, and then eventually into Peru. From there I traveled on my own through Ecuador, and met up again with a friend to travel Colombia. I will be returning to South Africa in mid October 2015 to spend time with my family and friends, and then I will be travelling to Europe in 2016.

I am an easy going person, who loves positivity and happy vibes. I am also a family man, and I have a very strong bond with my loved ones. I believe in spreading peace and freedom. I believe in the power of education. I love learning and I crave new knowledge. I strive to have a kind heart, a fierce mind, and a free spirit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travel has taught me many things about the world and about myself. I wish to continue on this incredible journey for as long as I can, and to meet interesting people on the way who share a similar view on the world. Couch surfing will hopefully help me achieve that.

Interests

I am an avid chess player, but I love most games of strategy. I am passionate about good music - music is truly food for the soul. I love learning languages, and have been learning Spanish didn't my time in South America. I play a little bit of guitar, and am trying to get better every day. I try to surround myself with genuine, honest, and kind-natured people. I love learning new things.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide range of music - there is good music in every genre. I love blends of electronic, house, hip hop, indie, and trance. A few of my favourite musicians/producers are: The Avener, Phaxe, Stefan Biniak, Flume, Mumford and Sons. There are many more but I cant list them all here.

I enjoy movies that make me think or stir up strong emotions inside me. A few of my favourites are: The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather part 1, Forrest Gump, The Matrix, Gladiator, My Cousin Vinny, Inception, The Life of David Gayle, La Vita è Bella, Johnny Stecchino.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I visited Isla de Pascua (Easter Island), a small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, with nothing around it but thousands of miles of ocean. During that time I was one of the most isolated people on the planet. I got to witness first-hand one of the biggest mysteries of the ancient world - the famous Moai statues.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a firm believer in sharing knowledge and education. The old cliché of "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will never go hungry again" is beautifully true and wise. I believe that teaching is one of the most valuable contributions a person can make to the world.

I have tutored mathematics at various levels, and would love the opportunity to do more of it. I am also a good chess player, and love to share my knowledge of the game with beginners.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would love to share knowledge, culture and experiences from the parts of the world that I have been to. I am also passionate about South Africa, and can share many things about my beautiful country with you.
