About Me

(Not updated, will update soon, I study Neuropsychology in Milan now)
Hi I'm Danilo! I live in Sicily (Italy) and I study psychology. Like most of the people here I'm open minded and I love solo traveling. Everything started when I turned 18 and I finally had the possibility to visit new places by myself. So when the summer came I just packed and bought a one way ticket to London. I eventually stayed there for almost 1 month alone and it was so fun because I was actually sooo unprepared! Everything could go wrong but I was lucky enough to survive there without getting in troubles. The only thing that I didn't really like about my first trip is that it didn't give me the possibility to meet the locals and see the place from their point of view. And that's what I changed when I visited Poland and Hungary where I got hosted by friends who were also locals and it was totally a different experience. I also occasionally help tourists who get lost in my place (Catania) and explore the city with them and it's a lot of fun. I traveled 3 times to Prague but I didn't have too many occasions to connect with the locals there, I'm still looking forward to go there again someday. I have now started solo traveling more often and I'm always using couchsurfing to connect with people. My best couchsurfing experience so far was in Portugal where I got hosted in Porto and Lisbon, saw a lot of fantastic places, connected with many locals and even went surfing!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It looks like a perfect solution to meet locals while I travel, I also enjoy to show the best spots of my cities to people who come to visit

Interests

I was playing the drums for a rock band and I really enjoy live music. I watched mostly musicians from the local scene and I'm lately listening to orchestra music (will go to my first orchestra concert in October 2019). I really like science and chemistry in particular even tho I choosed (after a few years) to study in the psychology field. I really enjoy having deep talks about anything with a good bottle of wine especially about the human mind. I always love to listen to other stories and learn new skills from the people I'm connecting with

Music, Movies, and Books

Music is a long one. I've been listening to many different things in my life, I always have trouble remembering the name of the songs. I'll list some groups from very different genres but there are many more:
SOAD, Pink Floyd, Led zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Nightwish, also I really like J-pop

I read books mostly to learn new skills. The best booksI've read until are from Paul Ekman (Psychologyst) about how to read emotions and recognize them in the body (they insipered the tv series "Lie to me")

I like interesting films about science but for the most part, if it's not horror or American comedy I should be fine with it. I watch them with friends mostly, rarely alone.

I don't watch too many Tv series but I particularly liked Black Mirror, How I met your mother and Breaking Bad. I also like Rick and Morty and South Park.

I watched a lot of Japanese anime but I don't think it's much popular here, you can ask me in private if you want to know my favorite ones

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took a surf lesson in Porto!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to play the drums, how to cook pasta (well I'm Italian after all). I like to learn anything really, new skills are always fresh air for me. I really like languages and I try to alway know some local words from the place I'm visiting and I can say that the locals are really going to appreciate your effort and will be easier to connect with them. It can also create some funny situations

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some local food from Sicily, some small gifts, Sicilian red wine, I can cook from them/with them but mostly I'm looking forward to enjoy our time together and make the host feel like he is on holiday too
