About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to 'see' people is to defuse stereotypes is to respect = no fear = self-possession = all the good stuff.

ABOUT ME

---WEEKENDS ONLY FOR NOW---

It's New Orleans: release ya self!

I like good conversation and singing my face off but also comfortable silence. I'll make you a fantastic cocktail and a solid meal. I like things that get your heart racing and relaxing afterward. I'm just as thrilled to bike, surf, hike, and go out and get crazy as I am to put my feet up with a good book or good company and something tasty to drink.

The only constant is change, right? So like my buddy Marty the entrepreneur says, "I don't want to be in a box. I just want to be Marty."

PHILOSOPHY

"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman

Make a difference. Love learning. Challenge yourself. Get fucked up with friends and have a good time. Love your friends and family. Experiment and question and try to keep an open mind. Nature! Respect people! Altruism. Joking, singing, dancing. Do things that get your heart racing & things that scare you. Too much comfort is poison, the right amount is joy; contradictions are life. Music is a universal power that binds people. Think. Philosophize. Literature & music can awaken dormant things about life and ourselves that we couldn't articulate. Having a sense of humor means not taking yourself too seriously. Positivity, poignancy, humor, beauty, ugly truth, excitement, relaxation, and necessary sadness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosted briefly in DC before bumming around for 2 years, relying often on the generosity of CSers. Now that I own a few possessions again, one of them is finally a couch in NOLA.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Crashing with people and experiencing a place through its people owns the 'comfort' of a hotel! Some of my best friends here in New Orleans are through Couchsurfing.. that says it all.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: alt-rock, rap, blues, soul, funk, reggae, EDM, jazz, country, classical, swing, spanish/flamenco, you name it. My favorite band is old 311: they distilled different genres to create the sound of badass positivity (did you know that was a sound?). I love soulful, funky hip hop-rock and anything that gets you moving. Nod your head to this! The Stones are probably a close second..

Movies: Lebowski, Annie Hall, Pulp Fiction, Pan's Labyrinth, Swingers, Godfathers of course, classic 90s comedies (Dumb & Dumber, Happy Gilmore, Tommy Boy..), Sci-fi, Lord of the Rings, Hitchcock (To Catch A Thief, Rear Window, Notorious), 101 Dalmations, Aladdin.. Mister Roberts, Inception, My Cousin Vinny, What's Up Doc,

Books: Murakami, Hemingway, Marquez, Fitzgerald, Kafka, LotR, Updike, Cosmos, Song of Ice and Fire, Henry Miller, Mice and Men, Poe, Harry Potter, Huck Finn, Shakespeare, Kerouac-ish, Brave New World, Waugh, Frost, Palahniuk, Calvin & Hobbes (it comes in book form...), Evan S. Connell., Native Son
