About Me

Hi I'm Dan, I'm 22 and I'm studying to grow grapes and make wine from my home region of the Barossa Valley in South Australia. I love climbing, surfing, hiking and riding my bike long distances - any excuse to be outdoors. I've been surrounded by vineyards my whole life, and worked in wineries to fund travel and some photography expeditions into outback Australia, but have now fallen in love with the world of wine.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently travelling in my off-season, looking to meet like-minded travellers, learn about different cultures, and spend time outdoors all the while.

Music, Movies, and Books

I primarily read non-fiction, and love biographies, travel stories, philosophy, business, self-development, wine and environment economics. My favourite fiction writer is an Australian author Tim Winton, who writes well of the Australian psyche and our connection to landscape and environment. My favourite films challenge me, or transport me to a landscape. I love The Revenant if I had to choose one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was 18 and recently graduated from school I hiked alone across South Australia for 63 days and 1,200km, camping and carrying my life on my back.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm in the beginning stages of learning French. I can tell you all I know about wine and photography, talk about my experiences travelling in Australia, and I'd be more than happy to show you around my region.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm currently travelling seasonally and don't have a consistent base of my own, but when I'm at home I live with my grandparents on our family's wine estate where we have vineyards, a small winery and merino sheep. We are welcome to having visitors while I am home, and I would love to share my region with you whether that be hikes, winery tours or anything else I can help with. Cheers!
