About Me

***********Update as of April 2015- I am now accepting guests in the London area, with https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2000787195/profile and our roommate. I get a lot of couchsurfing requests, so please acquaint yourself with how Couchsurfing works when you send a request to me. Many thanks, and let me know if I can help you with anything!***********

Please check 'My home' tab for more information - also please note that during weekdays most of us are normally working (although check this with us, as sometimes we will be around or can take a day off), so we ask for couch surfers to go out whilst we are at work, enjoy the city and surroundings, and come back to us whenever you like after 5! Thanks!

Hi I'm Dannee! A little bit about me.... I'm 24, and a graduate in English and Politics degrees. I'm an aspiring journalist, venturing into travel writing, and working with a conservation organisation. I volunteer a lot with international development charities and conservation charities.

I love to travel! Some of my best experiences have included... working with WWF searching for and reporting on tigers in the far east of Russia; camping in a car park in -8 degrees in mid-Norwegian winter; dancing and eating and exploring until sunrise in Moscow and St Petersburg; hitchhiking in lorries and cars through Germany and Czech Republic; volunteering and working from dawn until dusk in Ghana, and climbing mountains at the weekends; studying at a Chinese university in Hangzhou; traveling up and down mainland Japan; and snorkeling and diving with sea lions and penguins in the Galapagos Islands of South America.

More generally, I have a strong interest in international development, politics and volunteering, particularly sustainability and conservation. I studied English and Japanese at university, play piano semi-professionally, and enjoy creative writing and learning more about cultures and languages.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've hitchhiked Western Europe and have loved the friendliness of complete strangers on the road, so I'm hoping to find this same atmosphere in the CS community! I remember a hitchhiker picking us up on the border of Belgium and France, and driving us through Belgium, before letting us stay with them in Aachen. We cooked for them, and they gave us some wine. It was one of the best nights of hospitality I've ever experienced, and what has drawn me to Couchsurfing.

Interests

To travel; to explore the world and learn about cultures; to work for what I'm passionate for; to work on conservation projects and see beautiful places in nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Lion King is my favourite movie! :) But I like a lot of movies, really.
Music is easier - I love post rock (Sigur Ros being the one everyone knows!), general pop, classical music (as I'm a pianist), indie rock, etc.... I'm getting into hardcore very slowly and reluctantly, mostly because I love Enter Shikari.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

* Flying across Siberia and across Greenland on separate occasions. Any flights over barren wilderness leave me awestruck!
* Been in wild tiger habitation in east Russia
* Visited Israel and Palestine. The most incredible landscapes and fasciating people - on both sides.
* Sky dived over Namibia - wow!
* White water rafting in Zimbabwe... probably the closest I've come to feeling like I'm dying in my life (and that was a week after sky diving!!!) - phenomenal experience.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm keen on languages but totally useless at them! I can teach you piano or basic guitar. I know The Lion King off by heart. I can vaguely cook.... I make good cups of tea!
