About Me

I'm 29 (almost 30 gulp!) and I have worked in Engineering in Britain since I was around 18 years old. I have decided to seek paths anew this year and leave it behind for a while, maybe forever if things go well! I am a keen music lover and play the guitar to an acceptable standard. I will sing confidently, though badly, because I love to! I love Football, support Manchester City (please don't let this put you off hosting me, I know there are so many Man Utd fans out there!) and play regularly with friends nothing serious.
I have spent the last twelve months learning Spanish in preparation for my trip to South America, and must admit on that side of things that I am not confident at all, but I've figured it's better to throw myself in and learn it the hard way, when I have no choice but to speak it! I ordered relatively successfully in an Argentinian restaurant in London last week, that's about as positive as it gets! I am really determined to come back from Latin America with a decent standard of Spanish.
I'm very outgoing with a good appetite for life and humour. I'm really looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and seeing what the next few months will bring.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm here because I have decided to travel to South America this year and need to do it cheap. I have limited budget and as I'll be heading out alone I figured this would be a great way to meet people off the typical backpacker route. I am keen to meet people who can give me a real look into ordinary life away from the tourist trails, who can tell me THEIR history and THEIR futures!
I currently have a friend who is travelling around far east Asia who has only had good things to say about this site, so I thought I would give it a try!

Music, Movies, and Books

Bob Dylan and Oasis are by far my favourite and most inspirational musicians, though I can pretty much like anything with guitar in, apart from metal! Movies anything by Tarantino is a winner for me, I'm also very keen on foreign films. There are few regions of the world that I haven't seen a film from, and I must say I think the French cinema I've seen is probably the most consistent in terms of my enjoyment. My favourite book is Paul Theroux's Old Patagonian express, in which he takes a train from his home in Boston, US and changes until he gets as far south into Patagonia in Argentina as he can. It was the book the inspired me to take this trip! I always enjoy reading when I sit down and make time for it, though I wish I did this a lot more than I currently do.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once dressed up as Celine Dion and sang My Heart Will Go On from the movie Titanic, in front of around 300 people in a lip synching competition. I won!

Teach, Learn, Share

The thing I'm most looking forward to when it comes to meeting people is hearing how they feel the politics of their countries have affected their lives, and what they think needs to happen from this point onwards. Whether I agree or not, it's something that I enjoy listening to, and no better place to find it than on the ground level of someone living in the country!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share music and humour with people. I'm also more than happy to muck in with any jobs that need doing, if I can be of any help. Mainly I just want to meet people I would never otherwise get the chance to. What more can I say!
