About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Take over the world, one couch at a time...

ABOUT ME

So, first up, in case you get confused by names in my references... most of my references are from when I was travelling with my ex partner, Steph. I'm just a single traveller now!I'm 27 years old, and still feel 20. Except for the morning after a big night, where I inevitably feel 40. Like many people, I had a childhood. I went to school, and played on the swing set et cetera et cetera. Nothing extraordinary, I'm sure. Then, I made the reckless decision to spend six years getting a degree in Performing Arts and a degree in Law, which was barrels of fun. I managed to squeeze a year of travels in when I was 19 (England and Continental Europe with a touch of northern Africa), then another year at 25 - Asia/Sub-Continent, Middle East, Northern Africa, Europe and South America.I'm home from my most recent wayward wanderings and have started up an independent theatre company, AtticErratic, with a group of similarly minded friends, creating new works for Australia's very strong independent theatre scene. I'm a director, and sometimes designer. And a production manager. I like to write, but there are plenty of people who are waaayyy more talented at it than me, so I figure "Danny, stick to your strong suits". Being independent theatre, it drains the time and resources and doesn't really pay at all, so in my day to day life I work at Village Cinemas Gold Class as a hospitality worker... I used to work my day job as a lawyer, but that started to destroy all zest for life so I went back to waiting tables.I really love beer, a bit too much sometimes... Australia has an amazing micro-brewery scene, and if you're into our style of beer, you and I can have fun. I tend to prefer darker malty brews, but in the summer will branch out into some of the lighter tastes. I love a good glass of red as well. And cooking. And eating. I love spending days seeing sites and walking for hours, and I love spending entire days sitting inside relaxing just as much.I rarely have a lot of spare time (usually rehearsing for one show or another) but when I can I'm more than happy to take you out and show you around my beautiful city.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is art itself and the people in it are all contributors.

Interests

Theatre is most of my life, creating and going to see it.

I thoroughly enjoy philosophy, poetry and live music. And travel. Oh yes, I love travel.

More than anything else though, I'm interested in people. New people, old people, people I bond with instantly and people who I never would have thought I'd get along with. Spending time just "being" with others is time well spent. Yes sir.

Music, Movies, and Books

MusicI haven't yet come accross a genre of music I can categorically say I don't like. At the moment top of my list would be: Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Silver Mt Zion, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Dan Le Sac v Scroobius Pip, anything by Mike Patton!.. I also am trying to relearn how to play violin (I picked it up the other day for the first time in 10 years)...MoviesI love anything super stylised (like Sin City or Moulin Rouge), comedies or just really well made films (like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Adaptation)... inglourious basterds, 300, slumdog millionaire, pulp fiction, reservoir dogs, snatch, love actually, harry potter films, the watchmen, arsenic and old lace, marx brothers, juno, baz luhrmann, singing in the rain, tim burton, monty python, Dr horrible's sing-a-long blog!!!TVBreaking Bad, Scrubs, Weeds, Blackpool, Rome, Game of Thrones, Arrested Development, Heroes, Buffy, Angel, 30 Rock, Dollhouse, Firefly, How I Met Your Mother, The Wire, Boston Legal, Veronica Mars, House, LostBooksPretty into fantasy books. My favourite series of all time is Stephen King's "Dark Tower". Currently reading the "Wheel of Time" series. Really, really slowly.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bunjee jumpiiiiiing off a suspension bridge in a canyon in Nepal!

PLUS: The continuing and repeated kindness of hosts around the world who welcome strangers into their homes and astound us with their willingness to open their hearts and spread trust and goodwill in a world where we are constantly told they don't exist. There are good people out there, and more than you realise - thanks CS for reminding me of that. Cheers guys.

Teach, Learn, Share

Fire twirling (aka fire-staff) - I love a good burn, and am keen to pick up any new skills (or to teach whatever I already know). I also like to play around on my djembe, and would love to learn how to drum properly! Ten minutes ago I taught myself how to juggle with three balls. In ten minutes I hope to learn how to juggle three bananas.

I'm an experienced theatre director, so can help out any budding actors with a few foundation skills?!..

Also I've been trying to learn (Latin American) Spanish for a couple of years now... quite slowly! I'd love a chance to learn more.
