About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To pack as much Europe into July as possible.

ABOUT ME

I teach kids during the day, I watch movies for most of the night. I love organizing large dinner parties. My new project I'm working on is to host an evening where a dozen or so friends come over I read The Once and Future King while we sip sherry and eat sliced fruits. I think this is a much better way to spend our time than watching reality tv.

PHILOSOPHY

I've always been happiest when I'm serving my community and then building relationships through that. Like with my job. I teach in an inner-city public school because I'm pretty good at it and the people I work with form a really strong bond. I believe in personal virtue and honesty.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't tried CS out yet, but it's been recommended to me, and it sounds right up my alley. I landed this job where I escort some high school students to a summer program in Nice at the beginning of July, and then I pick them up and escort them home at the end of the month. My plan is to couchsurf through France, Italy, and possibly Spain for those three-and-a-half weeks I have free.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet.

Interests

Exploring, meeting new people, drawing, visiting art galleries, looking for the best beer on Earth, learning to speak other languages (though I never spend enough time in any one place to get good at them).

Music, Movies, and Books

The Once and Future King is my favorite book ever. I also get to teach the Iliad and the Odyssey, which is amazing. Shakespeare rocks my socks off. Ender's Game is probably the best science fiction ever. OK, tied with Dune.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last summer a baby bird once fell out of its nest and then climbed onto me for about twenty minutes before it figured out how to fly back up into its tree.

That same summer it started pouring rain 20 feet from me, but I was completely dry. It stayed like that for a good fifteen seconds, like a waterfall right in front of me, before it swept over to my side of the lawn.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I teach literature and history, so I can definitely share that. I'm hoping to visit some of the places I teach about. I am a serviceable cook.
