ABOUT ME [Caution was written many years ago; still all true but could use an update!]

I feel that it's a bit of a cosmic injustice that we only have one lifetime to live, so I'm trying to get a peek into many different lives by travelling and collecting experiences.

As part of my collection I lived as a naturalist and explorer with the WWF, slicing through thick underbrush in search of tigers, and visiting tribesmen who live deep in the jungle and hunt by blowpipe and make a meal out of monkeys; I pursued the life of a marine biologist in school and swam side-by-side with marine giants; I had a peek into the life of a doctor in Ecuador where I aided surgeons and felt my blood tingle as they sliced into and reconstructed humans with the heedless disposition of car mechanics; I examined a more spiritual life, fasting and meditating among monks at a Thai monastery; and 5 years ago I relocated to Cambridge, tried out the life of a medical researcher before moving on to building and growing a global health tech start-up with some friends.

Try to know and understand yourself well so that you can live accordingly, and be kind and generous while you're at it!

Among my favourite interest is discovering new ones. Others include cycling, reading, scuba diving, mountaineering, and nature.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books fulfill a big part of my desire to peek into different worlds, and I've lived many lives through stories. When I can these days I am thoroughly enjoying living the life of a 19th century Russian 'Idiot' (courtesy of Dostoyevsky).

I'm typically able to find music I enjoy from any genre, from indie, folk, tango nuevo, alternative hip hop, electronica, klezmer, whatever!

For movies I usually go for dramas and comedies. Some directors I especially like include Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Godard, Truffaut, and Miyazaki.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One lucky day while drifting in Pacific currents, I was visited by playful sea lions, a manta ray, and a whale shark.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm happy to help with your English through conversation, teach chess, and share my knowledge and thoughts on plenty of subjects. Someone I hosted recently taught me some poi and the jaw harp and I'm happy to pass this on to other couchsurfer's who will maybe continue and do the same for others.
