About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm an Australian living in Denmark who writes about the history of German and British colonies in the South Pacific.
I've been very lucky that my archival research has taken me to strange places in Europe and exotic locations in the South Pacific. So when I travel, I'm usually half-tourist and half-researcher. I love the window that couch surfing gives into a place.
I must admit, however, that I also really enjoy the time I have to stay still and relax in my own city. (I know this is probably scandalous to say on this website.)
PHILOSOPHY
'A schizophrenic out for a walk is a better model than a neurotic lying on the analyst's couch. A breath of fresh air, a relationship with the outside word.'
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
There have already been many great experiences thanks to the generosity of couch surfing members. And, when I eventually slow down and travel a little less, I hope to do some hosting, too.
Interests
As a historian I'm mostly interested in imagining other places and other times. Well, I'm also interested in this place and this time; though my inability to influence the contemporary world (for the better, of course!) can sometimes be depressing to contemplate.
Otherwise I spend my time cycling around Copenhagen and fishing (but not catching fish).

Music, Movies, and Books
In the context of travel, it is hard not to mention Alain De Botton's book, "The art of travel". It provides consolation when travel doesn't go to plan or just goes plain wrong.
