About Me

Hello! I'm a young American student who has an incredible passion for politics, culture, and the environment. After studying abroad and volunteering with WWOOF around Europe last year, I came back to America and finished my bachelor's degree. Now that I've graduated, I'm heading straight back to Europe - which is where couch surfing comes in! I am more than happy to share plenty of conversation (academic or otherwise) when with someone. I'm also a fine cook, and would love to learn some of the local cuisine of the cities I visit. Most importantly, I'm very adaptable to my environment, and can be quiet and unobtrusive at any time you may need. Though I'm very independent, I am hoping to find locals who are willing to point me in the direction of the best museums, coffee shops, and parks. I'm low maintenance and routinely very chill, but also able to have fun anywhere. I'm notorious for good vibes and a loud laugh.

I'm hoping to continue traveling the parts of Europe (and ideally Asia and North Africa, but that may be the next trip!) that I didn't get the chance to see last year, and I'm looking for places I can WWOOF, do WorkAway, volunteer, or just explore a city!

Also, if you have a question or concern, feel free to start a conversation with me! Talking to someone is the best way to get to know them, and perhaps a message or skype call could help us both make a decision about whether or not we should spend time together! I'm easily accessible online and can share more contact info via a private message.

I have a few life mottos:
1. Even bad experiences are good experiences from the right perspective
2. Every day you don't grow is a day you missed out on
3. Love is unlimited - sharing love sparingly is a disservice to yourself and others
4. Life is hilarious. Laugh at it.

Very excited and happy to answer any questions.
Peace,
Daphney

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To get the rich experience of traveling with no "fluff" of hotel stays. I'm not looking for a cookie-cutter experience, and prefer to tailor my own day-to-day lifestyle. I am young and want to make the most out of every day I have, all whilst learning to understand differing culture without American preconceptions and stereotypical tourism.
I also am hoping to learn how to be a good host, because I fully intend to host others once I have my own place again and am not non-stop traveling!

Music, Movies, and Books

There's no limit on my music taste, which ranges across many genres and languages. All time favourite bands, however, are: Man Man, Sufjan Stevens, Nirvana, David Bowie, Cat Power, Frank Ocean, and Kendrick Lamar.

I'm very much into directing, and David Fincher is my most beloved director (closely followed by Steve McQueen). I'm a lover of dramas, documentaries, and television series. Favourites are: Gone Girl, Atonement, Frank, Shame (2011), American Beauty, Fight Club, Serenity, Ex Machina, Her, Oldboy (the original, not the american remake), and Aliens. For shows I love Westworld, Mr. Robot, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Firefly.

Books for me are usually academic, of which I have a plethora of recommendations. Otherwise my favourites are: The Game of Thrones series, The Things They Carried, Slaughterhaus Five, The Belgariad, and anything relating to Shakespeare.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done quite a bit of traveling around America, and spent some time car-camping in forests around the West Coast.
I'm obsessed with trying new foods - even if they sound gross! You can never know what it tastes like until you try it. I've had a lot of great and a lot of awful experiences because of this.
Some partying, a lot of studying, presenting research, performing in poetry slams, gardening, and non-stop laughing all seem amazing to me.

Teach, Learn, Share

Happy to teach about American culture / experiences, and can share knowledge on much of the research I've done throughout college. I'm especially passionate about politics and theory, which I can talk about (or listen to someone else talk about) for hours. I'm flexible with conversation, I can be very talkative when the time calls for it or I can remain private if that is preferred. Happy to learn anything a host is willing to teach! Especially hopeful that I'll find someone to help me learn a bit of acoustic guitar, as I've always wanted to be able to play!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, and would be happy to provide meals. I can share my academic knowledge as well as my sense of humour (though it's drier than some are used to). I'm a very positive person, and I would be thrilled to discuss differing life perspectives. I also quite enjoy cleaning, and would have no objections to tidying the house if that were necessary. And if you have a dog, I would love to take them on a walk or run!
