About Me

CURRENT MISSION

The clock is ticking... let's get moving!

ABOUT ME

I love traveling, studying languages and hearing people's stories. I also love writing, though I don't write as much as I should. That being said, I tend to write more when I'm traveling ;-). I wrote an essay recently and it made its way onto Thought Catalog: http://preview.tinyurl.com/o8w9hb7

Before moving out to Vigo, I hadn't previously been to Europe, so it was a bit of a leap. I am very happy with my decision to venture into the unknown and I'm excited for the rest of my time in Europe before I return to the US.

I plan to do a Masters in Education and get certified to teach in America.

Aside from actually moving out to Vigo, I hadn't previously traveled alone. That all changed when I embarked on a solo-trip through Italy. I studied a little Italian before I went and took the plunge, traveling from Naples to Milan over two weeks on my own. I loved it: I had so many incredible experiences and crossed paths with so many wonderful ordinary and extraordinary people. Since then I've done more traveling and I can't get enough.

I grew up in North Carolina (USA), went to university in Boston and have been living in Vigo (Spain) since September 2012.

About my personality: I'd like to think I'm ALWAYS a joy to be around, but I'm seriously at my best when I'm traveling. I'm happiest, most curious, most adventurous and the most outgoing when I'm traveling and meeting new people.

PHILOSOPHY

The best things I've ever done scared the shit out of me before I did them.

While this doesn't necessarily mean that all things that terrify me will be the best things I'll ever do, I can't help but notice a pattern...

Music, Movies, and Books

I missed the intellectual atmosphere at university so I got a subscription to Harper's magazine and now I'm an addict.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

After getting lightly hit by a vespa in Naples, I told my new friend/hostel owner what had transpired. He asked me if I had a few minutes to spare and then led me downstairs to his motorcycle. He handed me a helmet and said "get on". He didn't want me to be afraid of motos in Italy, so he thought the best way would be to have me ride one through downtown Naples on a Saturday night, all the way up to an overlook onto the Bay of Naples.
