About Me

Hi there! Our names are Kythe & Dara. We fell in love at first sight about two years ago while WOOFing on the same farm, and have been happily exploring this fine world together ever since. We are not currently married or engaged, but may one day be, if neither of us unexpectedly dies too soon. We believe in innate human goodness, and try to actualize our capacity for it in our everyday lives. With humility, we aim to be kind and considerate, and constantly strive to increase our capacity for compassion, wisdom, and generosity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

At the moment we are on couchsurfing in order to find some kindred spirit(s) to stay with in Eugene so that we might to get to know the town a little bit more intimately-- we are thinking about moving to the area in the next year or two.

Interests

Kythe - reality, nature, mind, the nature of reality (and all juxtopositions of those three), buddhism, sound and noise and music, writing, permacultur-ish ideas, mythology, religion, human behavior, all sentient beings, non-agricultural societies, non-state societies, microbiomes, the cosmos, language, time, love, belief, conflicting and dissenting viewpoints, what is, what isn't, what could be, freedom, awareness, and asking questions.

Dara - philosophy, food politics, intestinal bacteria, genuine human connections, finely ground sea salt, paradox, and the perfect imperfections of the myriad of things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kythe - I enjoy most all music but especially enjoy music with elements of the unexpected or improvisation in it. I'm a musician and play electric and acoustic guitar, banjo, and bass guitar proficiently. Piano, singing, and other stringed instruments less expertly. I've played in dub reggae, psychedelic jam, punk, and folk bands. Once I almost joined a casino cover band that played mostly classic pop and rock from the 60's-80's. I was obsessed with Jimi Hendrix when I was 14. Lately I've been really enjoying music written for choirs and chanting.

Dara - My favorite author is Tom Robbins, hands down. I particularly like Another Roadside Attraction and Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates, though in truth all of his books are phenomenal (and more or less thematically identical). Alien as this may seem, I don't really listen to much music or watch many movies. I do appreciate both as important art forms, but I personally prefer the quiet pitter patter of the wind to mans' aesthetic creations. I like all music if Kythe, or someone else, can explain its magic as I listen. Mostly, I just like the way music excites many of the people I love.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kythe- I have spent over 100 days in meditation retreats staring into the deeper reaches of the human experience.

Dara- I once hitchhiked across the entire island of Hawaii in less than a day (ask me about the ride I hitched in the back of an enormous garbage collection truck).

Teach, Learn, Share

We are both always eager to learn anything anyone feels drawn to teach us. We are both reasonably well versed in the kitchen, and specialize in well prepared vegetables and sugar/grain free deserts.

Kythe- I have taught guitar in the past and often find myself being asked to provide guidance for people interested in meditation.

Dara- I used to do a lot of acro yoga, and love playing with people of all levels.

What I Can Share with Hosts

We have many stories to share, as well as a total of four ears to hear yours! We are also more than willing to help out with whatever chores or projects are being done around the house (e.g. gardening, cleaning, etc.).
