About Me

Hello! I’m Daria, a passionate filmmaker and artist currently based in Paris, with roots in Siberia. I’m 26, and my journey has taken me across Europe and Asia, building a vast network of creative professionals along the way. As a proficient organizer of photo and video shoots and large-scale events, I’m skilled at solving complex issues with a smile. I thrive in dynamic team environments and have a high tolerance for stress and multitasking.

I speak several languages, including Russian and English fluently, and have a working knowledge of Ukrainian, German, Georgian, Turkish, and French. I am an open queer person and a Russian opposition activist, always eager to connect with like-minded individuals.

Currently, together with russian oppose art group "Party of the dead" I am working on my feature film and planning an exciting two-month work and research trip to Toronto from July 24 to October 4 this year. I’m looking for free and safe accommodation in Toronto and its suburbs and am particularly interested in connecting with other artists. I would love to share stories, collaborate on projects, and explore the vibrant art scene in Toronto.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I bring a unique perspective from my diverse experiences and travels. I enjoy engaging conversations and am always ready to share my knowledge of filmmaking and art. Hosting me means being part of my creative journey and possibly collaborating on exciting projects.

Looking forward to meeting new friends and creating unforgettable memories in Toronto!

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a passionate music lover with a diverse taste that spans all genres. British and European progressive rock bands like King Crimson hold a special place in my heart, along with powerful female vocalists such as Joni Mitchell, Elizabeth Fraser, Billie Eilish, Nina Simone, and Madonna. As a cinephile, I adore classic Hollywood, having devoured all of Hitchcock’s and Billy Wilder’s films, while also keeping up with contemporary directors like Sorrentino, Xavier Dolan, and Bertolucci. My favorite reads include Thomas Mann's "Doctor Faustus" and Milan Kundera's "The Unbearable Lightness of Being."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In March 2022, I embarked on a life-changing journey, leaving my home country with nothing but a backpack and a heart full of hope. I had no safety net, no friends or family waiting for me, and only my English skills to rely on. Despite the challenges, I've embraced every moment and have no regrets. This leap into the unknown taught me resilience and the beauty of starting anew, and it's an experience that continues to shape who I am today.

Teach, Learn, Share

Over the past two and a half years, I've lived in several different countries, meeting countless people and hearing a million incredible stories. This journey has been an extraordinary life lesson, providing me with endless experiences and insights about the nature of things, people, myself, human relationships, love, politics, art, and more. Every encounter and challenge has enriched my understanding and deepened my appreciation for the world's diversity and complexity.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I bring a wealth of stories and experiences from my extensive travels and diverse professional background. Whether it’s sharing insights about film and art, discussing the nuances of political activism, or simply exchanging travel tales, I love engaging in meaningful conversations. I can also cook a variety of dishes, help with creative projects, and offer practical tips on navigating new places. Above all, I enjoy fostering connections and learning from others, making every stay a memorable exchange of knowledge and culture.
