About Me

I love to understand people. I’m a from-nothing kid from a town in central Scotland who worked hard to get out, got lucky a number of times, made the most of it, and now have the freedom as an adult to follow life-long dream of travelling the world. Spent a lot of time in recent years living with and meeting new people from all sorts of places, and really love to explore and understand others' perspectives and views on their places/backgrounds/cultures/beliefs/values/opinions. Quite a driven and ambitious person who has quickly moved from one occupational milestone to the next - consuming recent years through a very poor work-life balance. However, having decided that I’ve made enough progress, I'm now breaking that cycle and challenging myself to a slower-paced, more mindful lifestyle. I have the goal of developing and enhancing various emotional, spiritual, social and physical skills and attributes to build a more complete and balanced wellness. I believe that understanding and relating to more people around the world is an important part of this process.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What better way to meet and understand new people around the world than in their own homes living their own lives?

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Cross-genre appreciation for anything a bit different and/or anything with a bit of genuine emotion in the music/lyrics. Particularly enjoy anything that challenges music genre boundaries. Those very generalist comments belie a deep-rooted passion! Movies: Anything with contemporary ideas to share or an unusual story to tell. Struggle for patience with mainstream blockbuster-types. Books: Mostly cynical dark humour-based (like Catch-22) or non-fiction human psychoanalysis books (Games People Play etc).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going from a poor kid growing up in a heat-or-eat household in a bleak former mining town in Central Scotland to a City of London trading contractor/digital nomad, which has seen me rub shoulders with people from all kinds of diverse and interesting backgrounds and enable my world adventures.

Teach, Learn, Share

An enthusiastic life-long learner - teach me something new! Very happy to share knowledge. Probably at my happiest when having an intellectual back-and-forth with someone who is equally open to evolving their views.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Myself: I can offer endless enthusiasm for all kinds of chat. With a view to challenging my own understanding, I am very inquisitive, and really enjoy understanding how people think - so perhaps we can help one another understand ourselves better?

Domestic skills: will happily cook and clean whilst staying anywhere. I find it very therapeutic.

Company: I am an extrovert, and prefer to be social, so happy to take up offers of invites!
