Movies I'd take on a desert island: Tarantino's Reservoir dogs & Pulp Fiction, Forman's One flew over the cuckoo nest & Amadeus, Coppola's Godfathers and even Dracula, Leone's Once upon a time in America & The good, the bad and the ugly, Jaunet's Amelie, Singer's The usual suspects, Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption, Salvatores' Mediterraneo, Giordana's I cento passi & La meglio gioventu', Henckel's Der leben der anderen. Maybe The piano AND The pianist, maybe Non ci resta che piangere, but not Nolan's Memento, 'cause I know it by heart. If I've space left, something of Jarmusch, Stone and Kubrick and Scorsese would do. And the very first Zhang Jimou, before his pro-governmental switch.
Books: anything available, from Salinger to Steinbeck, from McCourt to Hornby, from Pennac to Camus, from Garcia Marquez to Galeano, from Auslander to Richler, from Kapuscinski to Bryson, from Tabucchi to Piperno. But I can get away with Lee, Moehringer, La Pierre, Roberts and many more. Better if long and considered boring. LIke Dostoevskij or Solgenitsyn.
