Overview
About Me
Heya, I'm Darren, and when I turned 29 I set off alone to Brazil to try and establish myself as a digital nomad. I like to travel slow, essentially living in the countries I visit. I normally find a place to stay long-term and make local friends, all the while learning the local language.
I have a mission to learn the main romance languages (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and French), as well as German and Russian. I am currently living in Medellin, Colombia.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I don't enjoy hostels or hotels, I like to get away from the commercial and clinical aspect of travelling. I often find myself mixing with other English speaking travellers if I do this, robbing myself of an authentic experience.
I want to meet locals, those who can passionately show me the hidden gems of their country, their culture, their cuisine. I want to talk in their language, but also freely teach them mine (and others that I speak).
Interests
Languages, music, travelling, hiking/exploring and trying new food, mmmmmm foooooood.
In Brazil and Colombia there are loads of places to hike and explore.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I bought a one-way ticket to Belo Horizonte, Brazil without speaking the language. I stayed for around 2 years in total and managed to assimilate myself into everyday Brazilian life.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my stories of travelling, the national food of the countries I have lived in, the languages that I have picked up and my delightful sense of humour. :)
