About Me

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most of my couch surfing experiences have been confined to a two month period in Münster, as I had never travelled Europe before. However, the generosity and, more importantly, the warmth of the people with whom I'd stayed has never ceased to amaze me. My Canadian cultural perspective led me to believe couch surfing would be an awkward, strained experience, but I am happy to say that each person whom I've stayed with became a good friend.

EDIT 2017: I've now hosted a few people whom I met in Germany in 2014; both friends, and people who were little more than passing acquaintances at the time, and I'm pleased to say that all my hosting experiences have been as positive as my guest experiences! There are many things to love about Vancouver, and I enjoy having the opportunity to show people around!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm fairly open as far as music goes, though I have a preference for anything that incorporates unique instruments (I've really gotten into electroswing for this reason). YouTube is a treasure trove of weird music.
Movies: I love Wes Anderson movies (Darjeeling Limited being my favourite) but I'm also a big fan of Edgar Wright - really, though, I'm into a bit of everything (my family are all film lovers).

Books:
2017 has been a great year for reading for me, as I've read many books which became instant favourites of mine, such as:
Rich Man, Poor Man
The Book of Negroes
Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series
Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle
Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth

That said, I'm always looking for my new favourite author.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I find that showing people around as a host really allows you to see your own backyard through a fresh set of eyes. Hopefully the time we spend in your town/city will be as fun and discovery-filled for you as t is for me.
