About Me
Hi,
I'm a 23 year old Kiwi guy spending a year travelling around Japan with a mountain bike and an open mind. I graduated from University with an Arts and Science conjoint Bachelor's degree (BA/BSc) majoring in Japanese, Psychology, Philosophy, and Statistics. I wanted to do some travelling and see some of what the rest of the world has to offer before settling down into a job, so here I am.
I've got a somewhat eclectic mixture of interests, though mountain biking is probably my greatest passion. I also particularly enjoy hiking, reading, listening to music, drinking good beer, having conversations, and learning and trying new things. I'd rather be surrounded by nature than cityscapes, and am interested in Japanese history and literature (these being things I focused on at Uni), Japanese tea, and Japanese handcrafts - I'm travelling around with a teapot and a rotating supply of green tea (that I'm happy to brew and share), as well as a collection of antique and new sake cups and tea paraphernalia that's expanding somewhat alarmingly.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Initially, I thought I'd give it a go as it seems a cool place to meet people, see more, experience more, and get to know places better than just being limited to what can be found in a guidebook. Having surfed a couple of times now I've found those hopes realised - the people I've met have been awesome, and staying with them and being invited into their worlds has opened up new experiences for me and given me new things to pursue. May there be more to come.
Also, having a place to sleep is always a plus.
