Overview
About Me
Native New Yorker. Graduate of Cornell University. Former radio DJ in Ithaca, Binghamton, Syracuse and Utica, NY. Lived in California for 15 years, including San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Eureka, Arcata and Encinitas. Also lived in Atlanta for two years.
In 2017 I traveled to India, Australia, Wales, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, and Germany before I settled in to Saigon, Vietnam for nearly two years. While there I also took two trips to Thailand when I had to renew my visa.
In May 2019 I returned to New York as my Mom was dying. I stayed there with my Dad until January 2020. At that point I intended to return to Saigon after a one month visit to Australia. But the pandemic started so I remained in Melbourne for three years.
I finally got back to Saigon in February 2023 and stayed 20 months. It is home and I will return there after my current US travels, which may include couchsurfing as a dream come true unfolds...the first concerts by Blind Man's Sun in 25 years.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I adopted the Vietnamese name ĐƠN GIẢN, which is pronounced Dun Za-an and translates to SIMPLE. This name is tattooed on my right wrist. It also appears on the cover of my latest book, in my email signature, and on all my social media. Please call me ĐƠN GIẢN if we have the good fortune to meet.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can share unique experiments with laughter and simplicity, language exchange in English and Vietnamese, and countless travel stories. I also have a great music collection.
Time permitting, I love to share in preparing and eating vegan meals. I enjoy the creativity and spontaneity that can include and I also have recipes to share.
Interested in learning travel tips.
