About Me

I work in computer vision and machine learning, teaching your laptop and phone to see (and, just maybe, to feel). When I'm not at work bringing about humanity's obsolescence, I try and spend lots of time outdoors and far away from a keyboard. Previously this meant lots of mountaineering, hillwalking and climbing; these things being difficult in the Netherlands it now means mainly cycling. I've been growing a mountain man beard to compensate.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In November I'm driving up from the Netherlands through Denmark, Sweden and Norway to spend a few weeks in the cold and the dark way up North. I'm planning to hike, ski and explore the place.

I'm making the trip on my own, but it'd be really cool to meet up with some people along the way who know the areas I'll be in and can point me in the direction of things to do and see, or maybe we can go out and do stuff together! I'm happy to go mountaineering by myself, but it's also more fun with other people.

I can't host anyone at the moment as I'm wrapping things up to leave for this trip and will then be moving jobs and likely countries, hopefully I can host in 2017!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm the worst climber. Achievements to date:

- Breaking the same finger twice in two separate falls. I've never broken another bone climbing.
- Going ice climbing in Poland and Slovakia and finding exactly no ice.
- Going ice climbing in Iceland (the name seemed promising) and finding myself upside down in a ditch on the first day.
- Moving to the Netherlands, where there are no rocks at all to climb.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like cooking and eating new food and it normally turns out OK, let's cook something together!

Otherwise I mainly have conversation to offer. I have lots of stories of stupidity and heroics, and I hold strong opinions on a variety of topics if you fancy an argument. I'm really fascinated with what people spend their lives doing, so if you're an interesting person (and you probably are more interesting than you think) then I'm sure we'll have plenty to talk about.
