About Me

20th September ____________Update! __________
I am now getting more English teaching work, and music work in Kiev. I have an old house in Kiev about 15 minutes by metro from the center, and another 10 minutes by a bus. It's about 100years old, and it's VERY random, but cool. It came with a 15 year old cat (in the house - it's his house) and a few dogs in the garden (they are my security gaurds). When My friend Andrey (my company director who looks a lot life Jesus after long periods in the desert) found this place it was a real shit hole, with some needles in the garden, no toilet, a FUCKED UP shower room, no kitchen - shit, filth, stink, everything bad - but now we've fixed it. It is cheap to rent, and finally it's kinda paid off. The garden is beautiful, and there's somewhere to park my car in a safe place next to the house. The area has a lake, and many tower blocks - 1000s of people live here, but I have one of the last old houses in the area. It's gotta be seen really. Anyway, I can host people now, and I think I will start doing it again, just to keep things fresh.

One thing though - I'm not vegetarian anymore, but I'm not a cunt. One other thing - the water tastes like metal, and smells a little eggy too but I do have a shower/ hot water, and I think it's safe to wash in it, but NO WAY would I drink it. We get drinking water from a place everyone goes to, and I think it's good - but if you're paranoid about it you can buy it super cheap.

One tiny thing - if you write me a message like this one: Hi. We are airplane technician and traveller. We need to stay a place. Can you help us ☺ - I will not message you back. (it's not because of the grammar) - I don't like it when people use couch surfing as a free bed - hostels are cheap for that - it's about sharing "maaaaan" - ok I am a bit of a hippy, but I am a traveller, you are a traveller - we have stories, we can cook/ go to markets and see stuff. Don't just copy and paste me some bullshit please)

Everything is cool) Slava Ukrayeeeena! Updated.

2018 March, ~~~(update) ~~~
I have just finished 3 months of working in Gloucester, and now I am getting back on the road again in a new (old) car again! I am going to drive back to Kiev from Gloucester (UK) - I will be heading to Edam from Calais on the 7th of April, and I hope to be back in Ukraine on the 12th to start playing that high energy bulkan music once more!
I am really excited to feel alive again after this winter's endless drudge of factory work. Long live the road!

ANOTHER UPDATE 2017!!!! I'm living in a 'hippy commune' kinda place one bus ride away from the metro Vydubychi (kiev city). I live with one punk drummer, his girlfriend, one vegan and 4 cats (but they live outside because they shit EVERYWHERE). Korchuvati is really beautiful and it means 'roots of a tree washed up by the river (delta).' I haven't hosted anyone yet in KIEV, but my housemates are fine with it, and I'll be responsible with it. We often have guests staying anyway.
I am playing contra bass with Toporkestra (see facebook - toporkestra, kiev) and i also teach English in the evenings. If you want to come to gigs you are welcome!
If you want to stay drop me a message, and if I have time to host you I will gladly. If you cook here we will be very grateful, and we try and share food, weed and alcohol! Food is really cheap in the markets in Kiev, and I think Ukraine has the best vegetables in Europe, with Moldova a close second. Especialy the garlic. I really love Ukraine generaly. I recommend cheking it out.
Couchsurfing is really cool, and I have normaly had a lot of joy from hosting people, as well as some experience staying with some really cool people in Istanbul. BUT!!! (So obvious) - but couchsurfing isn't only a free place to stay - it's a brilliant social idea to bring people together, share stories and culture. Some people just ignore you as soon as you give them the wifi password, and I don't want to host people like that anymore because it feels a bit like being used for a free place to stay. It's ok, we all use the internet and i'm sorry to sound negative. It's just my preference. Sorry this wasn't a very inspiring 'update!' End.

UPDATE!!!!! Its Octobe 2015 and I now have a flat in Prague, in Letna (the good bit) so I can possibly host people, and have a few spare beds but im only checking my internet every 2 or 3 days so give me some notice please! dave

***UPDATE!!!*** 30/5/2015
In Early August Im leaving Brighton for a long time - maybe over a year or way way longer... I have a big van and have saved up for a whole year so far... There's a music festival in Slovenia (floating castle stage) that im playing at and another one straight after in Bulgaria which 5 of us will drive to. Then after that maybe Istanbul or up to Kiev with my friend from there. we will be busking and teacing each other folk tunes the whole time. And cooking/ partying!
At the moment I'm still in Brighton and we are having a LOT of couch surfers at the moment. Brilliant!

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to learn more music and better myself and saving up for future travel plans.

ABOUT ME

Hey Everyone! !

Update October 2014 - I am ......obsessed with playing chess at the moment, so if you need to stay round here or not - if you are good, begginer, rubbish, fucking amazing or want to learn, I am happy to play.

I think i can get on with most people well and i have a lot of really amazing friends from Brighton I've met along the way! I love creative people and being really open.

I have 12 year old dreadlocks that are still getting fatter and longer - mostly tied back nowadays! I grew up in Gloucester in the skate punk/ metal/ rock scene - moshing, failing at skating and pursuing the music dream...

I love my family, and i always say hi to people on the street or on the bus, or running... I think being social is really important.

Try to stay really healthy with running, good eating and yoga. Im a vegetarian because I believe I could not kill an animal so I don't have the right to eat it. Also, what if the world went vege, wouldn't that solve a lot of environmental problems? I would eat a fish if i caught it, gutted it, and cooked it.... but I know as soon as I caught it I would feel guilty and panicy and throw it right back into the water hoping I hadn't injured it!

I need to keep learning... I need to keep reading and progressing - betering yourself! Maslow's hierarchy of needs rocks.

Im totally passive and all forms of aggression really scare me. I've never had a fight and all forms of confrontation I just walk or run away from.

I love rocking out with great energetic musicians and crowds. I am easy with genres - anything as long as it's got soul, feeling, dynamics and groove! My favourite parts of my life are on stage, living the moment. I have relative pitch, meaning I can play along with a song instantly (unless it's far out jazz bop/ zappa ect) if i hear the first note i can work out intervals, scales, ect! I am proud to be a musician and I love teaching. Also I work in a voluntary community cresh job, since feb2012. that including the teaching kids is one of the most positive thing I do, and I don't plan on ever stopping this.

PHILOSOPHY

Um... I don't know really... Be a nice guy and help people?

I DON"T HAVE FACEBOOK : )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We sometimes have couch surfers here when we aren't too busy with mates staying round! The more the merrier basically!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Great! I stayed with awesome people in Istanbul, got offers in Bulgaria too and it's nice to think that anywhere in the world...

Interests

I am a creative musician originally from Gloucester and Cheltenham areas (west country of England) - I moved to Brighton which is AWESOME!!!!! That was a hugely important thing to do for me to get straight into the heart of the music scene. I play double bass, flute, recorder, piano, synth, bass guitar, DJing, singing, and I do some production... Im trying to just narrow it down to bass and flute these days though! I love jamming with anyone and everyone. I especially love playing with folk musicians from different countries because I learn so so so much from other musical cultures! (still, we have morris dancing which can be cool sometimes:) )

so, the music is the life, the dream and my only other language... Been doing it in various forms since I was 8 years old, and now its my job teaching, sound engineering, producing, and gigging!

I love meeting people from different countries and I am waiting to get enough money together to eventualy leave brighton late next year and get into traveling PROPERLY.

Douglas Adams rocks. 42 yea baby. Know what I mean?
I love old comedy like tony hancock, Kenneth williams.... black adder....

I love my vinyl collection, and I know it's old school.... but I love it.

my website www.daveevansmusic.info I am really proud of because it's taken so so so long to make and it's like a musical blog from nearly 2 years ago now! still a work in progress.

Im currently playing a lot of folk and jazz on the double bass and flute - lots of paid gigs and voluntary stuff... tours too I HOPE!!!!!
